Job summary

Whatcom Hills Waldorf School seeks a Development Director to lead philanthropy, focusing on annual and major gifts and deeper alumni engagement, with storytelling that reflects our Waldorf mission.

Reporting to the WHWS Board and serving on the Collegium and Advancement Committee, the director will shape fundraising systems, donor communications, and campaigns while aligning with school leadership and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business administration, communications, non-profit studies, education, social sciences, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive fundraising/development experience (non-profit or educational setting preferred).
• Deep understanding of Waldorf education, or demonstrated capacity to develop a deep understanding.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in solicitations and appeals.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills across constituencies — Board, parents, community, and donors.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and computer skills; multitasking and volunteer/board delegation.
• Familiarity with technology and systems: G Suite, CRM implementation and use, Squarespace.

Responsibilities

• Co-chair the Advancement Committee and set direction for annual fund and multi-year giving plans.
• Serve on Collegium's Community Committee and participate in governance meetings; provide monthly fund development reports.
• Develop and execute fall/winter Annual Giving Campaign; manage online giving and Giving Tuesday initiatives.
• Identify, cultivate, and steward major donors; expand the donor pipeline with alumni and community.
• Coordinate events like Grand Friends Day and the annual gala/auction; secure sponsors and manage tickets.
