Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.

CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of South Los Angeles neighborhoods.

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide overall direction, leadership and coordination of the University’s undergraduate and graduate admissions processes, and to streamline the operational infrastructure that supports application processing, data integrity, reporting, and enrollment services. As a member of the Enrollment Management division, the Director works directly with the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management to evaluate the effectiveness of admissions and enrollment growth strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and achieve short-term and long-range enrollment targets in consultation with the Vice Provost of Enrollment Management and the Director of Recruitment and Partnerships.
  • Supervise and provide leadership in admissions of undergraduate, graduate and professional programs with a focus on increasing access in health professions.
  • Direct the admissions process from point of started application through deposited and matriculation.
  • Provide enrollment reports containing accurate data regarding admissions. Yield, melt, and conversions to support a data driven decision making environment.
  • Ensure that applications are processed promptly, timely, and accurately for each program.
  • Streamline admissions review process for common application and liaison CAS systems.
  • Coordinate admissions functions with the offices of Recruitment, Financial Aid and Registrar.
  • Ensure a smooth transition of student records from Admissions to the Office of the Registrar.
  • Develop, execute, and assess office policies, procedures, and the student information system of the Admissions unit (The supervision of a student information system in this position includes Slate, CAS, CommonApp, and PowerCampus).
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and accreditation regulations, and university policies.
  • Direct, hire, supervise, mentor, and coach Admissions unit personnel.
  • Collaborate with Recruitment to develop, update, and design marketing and promotional literature, display materials, and website activities for admissions and recruitment.
  • Oversee day-to-day admissions operations, including CRM system management (e.g., Slate or Ellucian CRM Recruit), document processing, and applicant communications.
  • Lead operational planning and optimization of admissions workflows, processing timelines, and service delivery standards.
  • Monitor and analyze admissions funnel data (inquiries, applications, conversion, deposits, yield) to inform decision-making and forecast enrollment trends.
  • Collaborate with IT and institutional research on data integration and dashboard reporting.
  • Develop and maintain execution of communication plan to all started apps through deposited students.
  • Prepare and administer the unit budget.
  • Attend team meetings, graduate fairs, and conferences as necessary to maintain knowledge of existing and new admissions policies, practices and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Regionally accredited master’s degree in a related field required.
  • Five to seven years progressive admissions counseling or academic advising experience with a wide range of students in schools, colleges or universities.
  • Reliable transportation to travel with admission/recruitment materials for off-site events.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse/multi-culture faculty, students, staff and external contacts.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, presentation, and management skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and detail orientated.
  • Use of standard office equipment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, MS Word & Excel).
  • Demonstrated writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to address complex issues utilizing a clear, thoughtful manner and to come to a resolution quickly without jeopardizing the event or relationships with people involved.
  • Ability to listen carefully to understand, respond, and problem-solve effectively to address concerns and interests of students and campus constituents, guests, vendors, and others, as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Licensed to drive in the State of California

Compensation:

  • $100,000 - $136,000 annual

Position Status:

  • Full-Time, Exempt
