The Client

We’re proud to be working with one of the most respected and fastest-growing music companies in the world. With a global footprint across five continents and a reputation for shaping the careers of some of the most exciting artists in the industry, our client is redefining what it means to be an indie powerhouse. They are looking for someone to own accounting, presenting ideas on how to streamline processes and propel the business further. This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest or background in tech, gaming, or entertainment who wants to make a tangible impact on their next business.

They offer an end-to-end ecosystem that spans music distribution, recordings, content, marketing, and publishing. With creativity and innovation at their core, they’re seeking a Controller to join their high-performing finance team and support the company’s ongoing expansion.

The Role

The Controller will own accounting and oversee key financial operations across compliance, revenue recognition, consolidation, and leading the annual audit, maintaining relationships with the external audit firm. You’ll also take a leading role in building out scalable systems and processes to support the company’s continued global growth.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment and has a strong command of GAAP, financial systems, and team leadership. You’ll work closely with cross-functional departments, including the executive team, to ensure accurate reporting, actionable insights, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly/annual financial close and reporting cycles.
  • Implement and maintain US GAAP-compliant accounting policies and revenue recognition practices (ASC606).
  • Oversee and lead a team across A/P, A/R, G/L, and reporting.
  • Manage external audits and ensure full compliance with tax and regulatory filings.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to support strategic business decisions through data and financial insight.
  • Evaluate internal systems, identify automation opportunities, and improve workflows across the department.
  • Maintain tight control over cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
  • Communicate with external vendors, tax advisors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Deliver financial guidance to department heads and non-finance stakeholders.

Required Experience

  • Progressive experience in finance/accounting roles, currently operating as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Director of Accounting.
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Deep understanding of US GAAP and revenue recognition principles.
  • Previous experience leading and mentoring finance teams.
  • Proficiency with systems like NetSuite, Excel, etc.
  • Exceptional communication and analytical skills.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in music, media, tech, gaming, or entertainment is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with international operations.
  • Exposure to royalty accounting or digital revenue streams is a bonus.

Salary: $170,000 – $200,000 + Bonus + Equity
