Position Overview

The Director of Accounting will serve as a strategic leader, overseeing financial reporting, technical accounting, corporate accounting, and treasury functions for a large publicly traded REIT. This role will ensure compliance with SEC regulations, GAAP standards, and SOX requirements while driving operational excellence and team development. The ideal candidate is highly experienced, collaborative, with a strong technical accounting background and proven leadership in a public company environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee SEC reporting, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Lead quarterly earnings releases, including financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, and investor presentations.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting for accuracy and reliability.

Technical Accounting

  • Provide expertise on complex accounting issues like lease accounting, acquisitions, joint ventures, and fair value measurement.
  • Monitor new accounting standards, assess their impact, and implement necessary changes.
  • Research and document accounting positions for significant or non-routine transactions.

Corporate Accounting

  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for timely and accurate reporting.
  • Oversee general ledger, consolidations, and intercompany eliminations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper recording and reconciliation of financial transactions.

Treasury Accounting

  • Oversee treasury operations, including cash flow management, debt compliance, and hedging strategies.
  • Monitor and reconcile bank accounts and loans, ensuring compliance with covenants.
  • Partner with treasury and finance teams to optimize liquidity and capital structure.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
  • Advanced degree (MBA or Master’s in Accounting) is a plus.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in public companies.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.
  • Experience in real estate, REITs, or related sectors is highly desirable.
  • Public accounting experience with a Big 4 or top-tier firm preferred.
