Vestra Consultants in Houston seeks a Director of Accounting responsible for the organization's financial management, accounting, grant, and payroll operations to ensure compliance with accounting standards, legal requirements, and funding regulations.

The role oversees general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgeting, cash flow, and financial reporting to the CFO, board, donors, and regulators.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP or other relevant accounting standards
• Provide financial reports to stakeholders, including the CFO, officers, donors, and regulatory authorities
• Provide oversight of the accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, and accounts receivable
• Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process in collaboration with various locations and departments
• Provide financial forecasts and projections to assist in strategic planning
• Establish and maintain effective internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulations
• Conduct regular internal audits to identify and address potential issues
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and funding requirements. Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and ensure the organization's accounting practices remain current and compliant
• Manage financial aspects of grants and contracts, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance
• Work closely with facility directors and program managers to track and report on the use of grant funds
• Oversee cash flow and liquidity management to ensure the organization's financial stability
• Monitor and manage banking relationships, including reconciliations
• Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making by senior management
• Analyze financial trends and make recommendations for improvement
• Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations
• Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to guide the organization's financial practices
• Train staff on financial policies and ensure adherence to them
• Work with CFO to implement and maintain accounting software and systems to streamline financial processes
• Stay current on technological advancements in financial management
• Make recommendations to CFO for improvement and/or change to existing standards and procedures
• Act as an internal resource to enhance awareness and understanding of best practices, risk management and use of controls by management and staff
• Maintain strict confidentiality on all client and foundation matters
