Creative Financial Staffing, LLC is assisting in finding a Director of Accounting in Columbia, MD. This role leads all accounting operations for a nonprofit with substantial oversight from the Executive Director and Board, shaping financial strategy and growth.

The candidate will guide budgeting, reporting, and audit readiness, manage month-end close and GAAP compliance, and develop a strong finance team in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
• CPA preferred for this leadership role.
• 8–10+ years progressive accounting and finance experience with proven management.
• Senior living or hospitality industry experience.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and financial leadership experience.
• Independent work with sound judgment and discretion.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting, budgeting, reporting, and financial analysis.
• Prepare annual operating budgets and interim financial reports.
• Ensure GAAP compliance, strong internal controls, and audit readiness.
• Manage monthly close, general ledger, debt service, taxes, and insurance.
• Coordinate the annual financial statement audit and Medicare Cost Report.
• Lead, develop, and support the finance team.
• Serve as a trusted partner to leadership and the Board.

Our client in Columbia, MD is seeking a strategic, hands‑on Director of Accounting to lead all accounting and financial operations for a growing, mission‑driven non‑profit service organization with $25–$27 million. This is a highly visible role offering direct access to the Executive Director and Board, with meaningful influence over financial strategy, operations, and long‑term growth.
