Qualifications

The Role:

As the Director of Nursing, you will serve as a key nursing leader responsible for planning, implementing, and promoting nursing standards while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, individualized patient care across assigned clinical areas. Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, you will lead teams, oversee operational performance, and champion excellence in nursing practice consistent with the Medical Center's mission, philosophy, and strategic objectives.

You will be instrumental in driving quality, safety, service excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives while fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.

What You'll Do:
  • Clinical Excellence Champion:Lead the delivery of high-quality, individualized patient care by establishing nursing standards, policies, and procedures that align with professional practice requirements and regulatory expectations.
  • Strategic Nursing Leader:Develop unit goals and strategies that support the Medical Center's values and strategic priorities while ensuring nursing services contribute to organizational success.
  • Patient Experience Advocate:Promote patient, physician, and caregiver satisfaction by creating a culture of respect, service excellence, and compassionate care.
  • Quality and Safety Guardian:Ensure adherence to clinical practice standards, patient safety protocols, infection prevention measures, and quality improvement initiatives that improve patient outcomes and care delivery.
  • Operational Excellence Driver:Continuously assess unit performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement innovative solutions that enhance quality, efficiency, and service.
  • Financial Steward:Develop, manage, and monitor labor, operating, and capital budgets while optimizing resources, maintaining productivity standards, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Workforce Development Partner:Recruit, hire, develop, and retain talented caregivers while fostering professional growth, ongoing competency development, and a culture of clinical excellence.
  • Collaborative Team Builder:Promote teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure seamless integration of services and coordinated patient care across the organization.
  • Patient Care Advocate:Serve as a clinical resource and advocate, ensuring ethical care delivery, patient rights, confidentiality, and effective resolution of care-related concerns.
  • Performance Improvement Leader:Design, implement, and evaluate quality improvement initiatives that support operational goals, improve patient outcomes, and strengthen organizational effectiveness.
  • Education and Professional Development Champion:Support ongoing learning and growth through orientation programs, continuing education, staff development initiatives, and leadership mentorship.
  • Resource and Operations Manager:Ensure appropriate staffing, skill mix, equipment readiness, supply management, and operational support needed to deliver exceptional patient care.
What You'll Bring:
Educational Background:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Current California Registered Nurse License required.
Experience:
  • Experience in a Magnet-designated organization leadership role preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive management experience within the applicable clinical specialty.
  • 5+ years of experience in an acute care setting.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams and managing complex clinical operations.
Operational & Financial Acumen:
  • Experience managing budgets, staffing plans, productivity targets, and operational performance.
  • Ability to monitor financial performance and implement strategies that support quality care and fiscal responsibility.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.

  • Commitment to delivering exceptional patient outcomes and ensuring adherence to evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Experience implementing quality improvement initiatives and promoting continuous performance improvement.

Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Further, we want our leaders to live in or near the communities we serve. Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.
