Job Description

Providence is seeking a collaborative and operationally strong Director of Nursing to lead nursing services at Holy Family Hospital. This is an opportunity for an experienced nursing leader to shape clinical operations, strengthen a developing manager team, and advance quality, patient safety, and caregiver engagement within a Magnet-aligned culture.

Working in close partnership with the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director will provide leadership across inpatient nursing, emergency services, critical care, and the Family Maternity Center, including labor and delivery, postpartum, and NICU. The position oversees approximately six direct-report leaders and nursing operations supporting approximately 625 FTEs.

The successful candidate will balance clear operational accountability with a participative leadership style. They will be visible, approachable, comfortable working with data, and committed to involving frontline caregivers in decisions that affect patient care and daily operations.

The Role

The Director of Nursing has overall responsibility for nursing operations across multiple units and service lines. The Director implements the hospital’s mission, priorities, standards, policies, and procedures while overseeing planning, budgeting, staffing, quality, leader development, and operational performance.

This leader will ensure nursing services support the hospital’s strategic plan, with a strong focus on highly reliable care, performance improvement, throughput, capacity management, productivity, and appropriate use of resources. The Director also serves as an Administrator on Call on a rotating basis with other directors and executive leaders.

A close and effective partnership with the CNO will be essential. The Director will provide hands-on oversight of daily nursing operations, manager accountability, productivity, quality, and goal execution, allowing the CNO to maintain focus on broader vision, system alignment, professional governance, and strategic quality priorities.

  • Monitor operating performance and respond appropriately when financial, quality, or operational results vary from established goals.
  • Collaborate across nursing departments, including continued partnership and bridge-building with perioperative nursing.
  • Participate in the rotating Administrator on Call schedule.
