Job summary

Radiant, based in El Segundo, CA, seeks a Director of Nuclear Engineering to organize design and analysis strategy for its microreactor fleet. You will lead a team across core physics, shielding, dose/consequence analysis, and instrumentation, shaping roadmaps and ensuring safety bases in collaboration with external partners.

The role requires a degree in nuclear engineering or related field, 10+ years leading reactor design teams, and strong cross-disciplinary communication.

Qualifications

• Degree in nuclear engineering, physics, or engineering physics.
• Minimum 10 years leading a reactor design/analysis team.
• Fluency in first principles across nuclear, thermal, electrical, and mechanical domains.
• Excellence in communicating nuclear engineering concepts to a multidisciplinary audience.
• Familiarity with DOE/NRC safety bases and regulatory processes.
• Willingness to relocate to Radiant’s El Segundo office.
• Experience with Monte Carlo neutron transport codes (OpenMC/Serpent/MCNP).

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of nuclear engineers spanning core physics, shielding, dose/consequence analysis, and instrumentation.
• Manage team execution, remove roadblocks, adapt to priorities.
• Identify and communicate technical, schedule, and regulatory risks.
• Develop analysis roadmaps for fast iteration across reactor programs.
• Foster ownership and mentorship within the team.
• Define approaches to design margins and peer reviews.
• Interact with universities and national labs to achieve objectives.
