Qualifications

Job description

LSG , an impact agency specializing in public affairs, corporate reputation, and brand building, is seeking a Director of Media Relations to join our team in Washington, D.C. This role will support strategic communications efforts across our growing client portfolio, helping clients – particulary those in highly regarded sectors – shape public narratives, navigate complex media environments, and achieve measurable reputational impact.

We’re looking for a highly responsive communicator with strong experience pitching reporters and news outlets, growing relationships across the media and political ecosystems, and a sharp understanding of today’s media and political dynamics. This is a highly visibiliity opportunity to shape narratives on consequential issues and grow as a leader in the public affairs communications space. Ideal candidates have media and/or communications experience inside the Beltway – on Capitol Hill, at the White House,e or with other relevant entities in Washington – in roles such as press secretary, deputy communications director, or press staff.

This is a hybrid role based in our downtown DC office Monday-Thursday, with remote work available on Fridays. The position requires periodic travel to support client engagements and events.

Responsibilities

Media Strategy & Execution

  • Cultivate relationships with media outlets, producers, editors, journalists, and influencers, including demonstrated experience pitching and engaging reporters in DC and inside-the-Beltway.
  • Support media relations strategy for clients navigating policy, regulatory, and reputational challenges.
  • Secure earned media placements and help shape narratives that resonate with priority audiences.
  • Provide counsel and rapid response support during high-profile or politically sensitive media moments.
  • Draft and pitch op-eds, thought leadership pieces, and interviews to advance client goals.

Client Relationship & Counsel

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, working alongside senior team members.
  • Translate policy, corporate, and advocacy priorities into compelling media strategies.
  • Contribute to integrated campaigns in coordination with digital, grassroots, and policy teams.
  • Maintain high client satisfaction by anticipating needs and producing tangible results.

Team & Business Development

  • Mentor junior staff to support strong execution and professional growth.
  • Contribute to LSG’s media service offerings by identifying best practices and operational improvements.
  • Support business development through proposal writing, pitching, and identifying new opportunities.
Qualifications
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in communications, media relations, political strategy, or public affairs.
  • Prior media and/or communications experience inside the Beltway, such as on Capitol Hill, at the White House, or with other relevant entities in Washington (e.g., press secretary, deputy communications director, or senior press staff).
  • Prior experience working at a public affairs/communications firm or agency setting.
  • Proven track record securing coverage with leading outlets and building relationships with journalists.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute proactive earned media strategies in politically charged, fast-moving environments, with sound judgment and exposure to crisis communications.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft sharp, persuasive messaging.
  • Experience contributing to account teams and campaign execution, with familiarity in advocacy, public affairs, or policy campaigns.
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple client accounts and competing deadlines simultaneously.
