CONMED Corporation seeks a Director of Mechanical Engineering in its Advanced Surgical R&D. This onsite Denver role leads the ME team through the full product lifecycle, aligning with corporate pillars and driving excellence in development practices.

You will mentor managers, coordinate cross-functional roadmaps, and oversee budgeting and resource management. The position requires 10+ years in medical device R&D with at least 5 years in leadership, a 4-year engineering degree, and 20% travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical/Mechanical/Electrical/Software engineering or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of medical device R&D experience with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
  • Willingness to travel ~20% as part of the role.
  • Master's degree and FDA/ISO compliance experience are highly desirable.

Responsabilités

  • Define and deliver Mechanical Engineering team vision aligned with Advanced Surgical R&D objectives.
  • Partner with R&D, Marketing and other functions to develop portfolio strategy and roadmaps.
  • Identify emerging technologies and integrate them into product roadmaps.
  • Champion innovation, robust development processes, and continuous improvement in technology and product performance.
  • Develop and execute budget and resource plans; manage leadership communication and talent development.

The Director of Mechanical Engineering in Advanced Surgical's R&D department will lead all elements of R&D for the Mechanical Engineering team. This role oversees the entire product lifecycle - from early-stage product development through sustaining on-market products - across the entire product portfolio. In addition to the product-centric responsibilities, the Director will foster a culture of excellence and accountability in alignment with ConMed's 5 pillars, support team member career development aspirations, and focus on continuous improvement of development methodology and core capabilities. The Director will operate in alignment with ConMed's Leadership Expectations and will lead a team Engineering Managers.

This is an onsite role based in Denver, Colorado.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership:
  • Define and deliver Mechanical Engineering team vision aligned with business objectives and overall Advanced Surgical R&D vision.
  • Partner with R&D counterparts, Marketing, and other critical functions to develop portfolio strategy and technology roadmaps.
  • Identify emerging technologies and integrate them into product roadmaps.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and accountability
  • Actively support the career development of managers and engineers
  • Create a vision that inspires the team to push the boundaries and raise the standard of excellence
Management/Communication:
  • Contributes to R&D leadership meetings and updates
  • Facilitates team and business meetings effectively
  • Effectively communicates opportunities, risks, trade-offs, and recommendations to superiors
  • Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
  • Resolves and/or escalates issues as appropriate.
  • Understands how to facilitate communicate difficult/sensitive information.
  • Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities.
  • Develops team and organizational talent and development plans
  • Develops and executes annual budget and resource management
Product Development Execution
  • Oversees the entire product lifecycle - from early-stage product development through sustaining on-market products - across the entire product portfolio, ensuring compliance to applicable requirements and standards.
  • Champion best innovation practices, implement robust development processes, and drive continuous improvement in technology and product performance.
  • Ensure projects are properly resourced with the right level of skillsets and experience
Minimum Requirements:
  • Four (4) year degree minimum in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years in medical device R&D or similar, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
  • 20% Travel
Preferred Requirements:
  • Master's degree is highly desirable
  • Proven track record in product development under FDA and ISO 13485 compliance.

This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship. Disclosure as required by applicablelaw, the annual salary range for this position is $169,000 - $235,000. The actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education and skill level. The salary range is CONMED's good faith belief at the time of this posting.
