Position Overview:
As the Director of MDR Operations, you will be responsible for the leadership, performance, and growth of Beazley Security’s Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services. Reporting to the Chief Product and Technology Officer, you will drive strategic improvements, ensuring that we are continuously identifying opportunities for enhancement and proactively adjusting operations to deliver superb detection and response capabilities on behalf of our clients.
You will lead operational excellence across 24x7x365 security monitoring, monitoring during Incident Response, MXDR onboarding, and service delivery. You will work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Beazley Security Labs, and Client Success to ensure MDR operations meet the highest standards of quality, scalability, and client satisfaction. You will also partner closely with Sales leadership to support new business growth, expansions, and upsells by demonstrating operational excellence and value to prospective and current clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- MDR Service Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and direction for the MDR function, with a primary focus on 24x7x365 MDR service delivery, ensuring high-quality detection, response, and client communication across all MDR offerings while ensuring alignment with overall company goals.
- Team Management and Development: Lead, mentor, and scale MDR operational teams, including SOC analysts, MXIR analysts, Security Engineering, and managers, with a focus on performance, growth, and retention. Lead by setting clear goals and objectives and hold team members accountable for performance.
- Incident Response to MDR Conversion: Drive incident response to long-term MDR conversion by leading the Managed eXtended Incident Response (MXIR) team to deliver exceptional client experiences during active incident response engagements.
- Client Onboarding Excellence: Ensure smooth and high-quality onboarding to our MXDR solution, working with the Security Engineering team to onboard critical log sources, validate telemetry, and establish effective monitoring coverage.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee daily security operations, including case management, escalations, incident handling, detection tuning, threat hunting, and collaboration with Beazley Security labs to continuously improve detection capabilities.
- Process and Playbook Development: Work with MDR Leadership to develop, maintain, and continuously refine operational playbooks, runbooks, and escalation procedures to drive repeatability, efficiency, and service quality.
- Executive Escalation Point: Act as the executive escalation contact for critical client incidents, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication to internal and external stakeholders. Act as the senior-most authority for the function, serving as the go-to leader across the organization without requiring day-to-day oversight from the Chief Product and Technology Officer.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Beazley Security Labs, Product, Engineering, Client Success, and Sales teams to evolve detection content, drive threat-informed detection strategies, support sales opportunities, and improve MDR capabilities.
- Sales Enablement and Growth: Collaborate with Sales leadership to support MDR business growth, providing operational expertise during client presentations, RFP responses, and prospect conversations, and ensuring the MDR team can deliver on promised capabilities.
- Metrics, Reporting, and KPIs: Manage operational metrics, service level reporting, and KPIs, delivering actionable insights to executive leadership, internal stakeholders, and clients.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive proactive decision-making, anticipating challenges and opportunities to continuously improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Vendor Relationships: Act as the business owner for our relationship with key partners utilized to deliver our services, working with them to understand upcoming initiatives, enhancements to platforms, and growth opportunities.
- Autonomy and Ownership: Operate with a high degree of autonomy, taking full ownership and accountability for the success, performance, and evolution of the MDR function.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience leading 24x7x365 MDR/SOC operations, with a strong background in detection engineering, incident response, and security operations.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, taking full ownership and accountability for the success, performance, and evolution of the MDR function.
- Proven track record of strategic leadership, including setting vision, building high-performing teams, and driving measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence in a client-facing cybersecurity services environment.
- Proven success managing and developing high-performing technical teams, including remote and geographically distributed staff.
- Deep understanding of cybersecurity operations, detection and response methodologies, and threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives such as client onboarding, detection tuning, and incident resolution.
- Experience working directly with Sales and Client Success teams to support pre-sales activities, expansions, and upsells through operational expertise and delivery excellence.
- Excellent executive communication skills with the ability to represent MDR operations internally and externally, including at the C-level.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to align and prioritize day-to-day operations with broader business goals, service evolution, and client needs.
- Maintain team culture of engagement and collaboration at all levels within the team and cross-functionally.
