Job summary

Viridian Therapeutics, Inc. is seeking a Director of Manufacturing & Supply Operations to lead business operations across Technical Operations from our Waltham, MA headquarters.

The role runs with significant autonomy and matrix influence over vendors, contracts, budgets, and governance. The position requires deep biotech/pharma experience, senior-level collaboration with Legal/Finance, and the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives while traveling as needed.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of biotechnology or pharmaceutical experience including manufacturing and GMP operations.
  • Director-level ability to partner with senior management and translate strategy into operational plans.
  • Mastery of how Supply Chain, External Manufacturing, CMC, Quality, and Regulatory intersect to support goals.
  • Proven ability to resolve cross-functional issues, anticipate risks, and drive outcomes.
  • Influence-based leadership in matrix environments; negotiate with vendors/partners without direct authority.
  • Strong written, verbal, and executive communication with high accountability, in a fast-paced setting.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally; salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide matrix leadership by influencing internal stakeholders, external vendors, and cross-functional partners to align operational decisions.
  • Lead contract planning, negotiation support, execution, and lifecycle management for Technical Operations.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and stakeholders to ensure contracts include terms, governance, metrics, and budget assumptions.
  • Build productive relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders to support negotiation and timely execution.
  • Contribute to Technical Operations budget management, forecast updates, PO oversight, accruals, and variance analysis.
  • Orchestrate governance meetings and business reviews with clear agendas, logs, and follow-through.
  • Support vendor selection, onboarding, and transition activities coordinating requirements and governance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve vendor value, efficiency, cost management, and cross-functional workflows.

Job description

At Viridian, we are focused on developing best-in-class medicines for people living with autoimmune and rare diseases. Leveraging our team’s expertise in antibody discovery and engineering, we have created a robust pipeline of differentiated investigational therapeutic candidates for well-validated targets.

Reporting to the Vice President, External Manufacturing & Supply Chain, the Director, Manufacturing & Supply Operations will lead business operations activities that support Technical Operations, including contract negotiation and lifecycle management, budget planning and roll-up, and business reviews. Operating with significant autonomy, this individual contributor role will impact through matrix leadership, vendor and stakeholder influence, and ownership of business processes that support program, financial, and operational decision-making across Technical Operations.

This role is based in our Waltham, MA headquarters. Our office-based employees are required to work in the office three (3) days a week.

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
  • Provide matrix leadership by influencing internal stakeholders, external vendors, and cross-functional partners to align operational decision-making by translating program priorities, business planning, financial assumptions, risk trade-offs, and decision-making inputs without direct people management authority.
  • Lead contract planning, negotiation support, execution, and lifecycle management for Technical Operations
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and functional stakeholders to ensure contracts include appropriate business terms, deliverables, governance expectations, performance metrics, budget assumptions, and compliance requirements
  • Build productive relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders to support effective negotiation, clear accountability, timely execution, and practical resolution of business and operational issues
  • Contribute to Technical Operations budget management processes, including annual planning inputs, forecast updates, purchase order oversight, invoice review, accrual support, variance analysis, and consolidated budget roll-ups for leadership review
  • Orchestrate governance meetings and business reviews, ensuring clear agendas, decision logs, action tracking, risk escalation, and follow-through on commitments across internal and external stakeholders
  • Support vendor selection, onboarding, and transition activities by coordinating business requirements, operational assumptions, proposal comparisons, contracting needs, budget impacts, governance expectations, and stakeholder decision-making inputs
  • Identify opportunities to improve vendor value, operating efficiency, cost management, contract structure, governance discipline, and cross-functional ways of working across the Technical Operations supplier network
Requirements
  • Requires 12+ years of progressive biotechnology or pharmaceutical experience, including substantial experience manufacturing and supply chain, and related GMP operations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering, or a related discipline required
  • Demonstrated Director-level ability to participate with senior management in establishing strategic plans and objectives, translate functional strategy into operational plans, and ensure effective execution across internal teams and external partners
  • Mastery of the core functional area with strong understanding of how Supply Chain, External Manufacturing, CMC, Quality, and Regulatory intersect to support company goals and competitive positioning
  • Proven ability to resolve complex, cross-functional operational issues where problems are not clearly defined; anticipates risks, develops practical mitigation plans, and drives measurable outcomes
  • Demonstrated success leading through influence in matrixed environments, including aligning senior stakeholders, reconciling multiple perspectives, and negotiating matters of significance with vendors, partners, or major customers without reliance on direct reporting authorityDemonstrated knowledge of contract management, budgeting processes, supplier governance, business reviews, KPIs, and issue escalation
  • Strong written, verbal, and executive-level communication skills; able to operate with significant autonomy, sound judgment, and high accountability in a fast-paced matrix environment
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as needed
  • The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience
