The Personalization team makes deciding what to play next easier and more enjoyable for every listener. From Daily Mix to Discover Weekly, we’re behind some of Spotify’s most-loved features and serve relevant content to our users across the app. Join us and you’ll keep millions of users listening by making great recommendations to each and every one of them. We ask that our team members be physically located in Central European time or Eastern Standard/Daylight time zones for the purposes of our collaboration hours.

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to join Spotify’s Personalization Mission. Our goal is to build and surface the best listening experiences that connect fans and creators in a personal and relevant way. We are looking for someone that already has the level of experience managing a team of engineering managers and product scope of a similar magnitude.

In this role, you will be instrumental in growing the Home product area where your impact extends beyond your teams to the larger organization. Home is the flagship of the Spotify app, surfacing the best of what Spotify has to offer, including music and podcasts for every situation, personalized playlists, new releases, old favorites, and undiscovered gems.


What You'll Do
  • Provide leadership to the Home product area
  • Manage 7 engineering managers with a current team of engineers located in Boston and New York
  • Support a highly engaged team to deliver against goals during high growth
  • Develop people and teams through coaching, mentoring, and management support
  • Be accountable for performance and results of multiple related units/teams
  • Grow the technical expertise of your team around quality, scalability and performance
Who You Are
  • You have experience leading large engineering teams
  • You understand how to create strategic alignment with multiple stakeholders and product management at various levels throughout Spotify
  • You are capable of articulating and driving tech strategy for a specified product area
  • You are able to translate strategy to actionable execution plans, staffing and organizational structure while also being accountable to the results of those plans
  • You have led large scale consumer products and technology
  • You are familiar with consumer facing data and Machine Learning driven products such as recommendation systems
  • You love developing and growing people and have a track record doing it
Where You'll Be
  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the EST time zone as long as we have a work location.

The United States base range for this position is $238,725 - $341,035 plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, paid sick leave. This range encompasses multiple levels. Leveling is determined during the interview process. Placement in a level depends on relevant work history and interview performance. These ranges may be modified in the future.
