Job summary

The Huntington seeks a senior leader to head Preservation & Conservation, directing both library and art conservation efforts. You will supervise conservators, technicians, and staff, guide preventive care and treatment, and coordinate with curators and directors to align priorities.

The role involves strategic planning, budget management, and external professional engagement. Candidates should bring a Master’s in preservation/conservation, 10+ years in the field, and a proven track record of

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in preservation and conservation required.
• Thorough knowledge of preservation and conservation theory and practice; materials science relevant to library/art objects.
• Familiarity with library/museum preservation issues and ability to supervise professionals.
• Ten years of professional experience in preservation of rare/special materials.
• Proven ability to plan, organize, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Directs The Huntington’s unified library and art Preservation & Conservation program to highest standards.
• Supervises conservators, technicians, and staff; coordinates with painting conservation.
• Manages project priorities, budget, and laboratory operations.
• Oversees environmental monitoring and lab safety compliance.
• Represents the department in professional associations and collaborations.
