Job summary

Premise Inc. is seeking a Director of Learning & Development to design and execute our training strategy, building the knowledge, technical expertise, and leadership skills across apprentice to senior leaders.

This role partners with Operations, Safety, HR, and Project Management to accelerate employee development and improve field execution. You will own the learning ecosystem, identify needs, coordinate subject matter experts, measure results, and reinforce our Ready to Learn values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Seven or more years of progressive experience in Learning & Development including enterprise-wide programs and materials.
  • Experience creating technical training materials and administering learning management systems.
  • Experience partnering with schools/trade organizations.
  • Exceptional facilitation and presentation skills.
  • OSHA knowledge.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to promote Premise core values: Be Ready to Learn, Own the Result, Build Trust, Drive to Complete.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Premise's enterprise-wide learning and development strategy identifying gaps across field and office operations.
  • Create annual and multi-year training roadmaps aligned with growth objectives.
  • Partner with field leaders to identify skill gaps, ramp‑up new employees, develop crew foremen, and roll out new equipment.
  • Leadcraft development through apprenticeships, mentoring, and journeyman programs.
  • Deliver blended learning: classroom, virtual, on-site coaching, and e-learning.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to create current technical content.
  • Own onboarding programs delivering a consistent, high-quality experience.
  • Design and deliver leadership development programs for all levels.
  • Maintain operational knowledge docs including SOPs and field manuals.
  • Build a culture of continuous learning and be ready to learn.
  • Manage LMS, training calendar, instructor scheduling, vendors, and compliance.
  • Establish metrics demonstrating business impact and continuously improve programs.

SUMMARY:

The Director of Learning & Development is responsible for developing the people, skills, and capabilities that enable Premise to safely deliver exceptional work for our customers. This leader designs and executes the company's training strategy, ensuring employees at every level—from apprentice through senior leadership—have the knowledge, technical expertise, leadership skills, and resources needed to succeed.

In partnership with Operations, Safety, Human Resources, and Project Management, this role will design and deliver training, accelerate employee development, help improve field execution, and build the next generation of leaders.

We’re looking for someone who can act as the architect of Premise's learning ecosystem: identifying needs, designing programs, coordinating subject matter experts, measuring results, and reinforcing our corporate value of “Ready to Learn.” In doing so, the Director of Learning & Development will combine strategic leadership with hands‑on program development and field engagement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop and execute Premise's enterprise-wide learning and development strategy by identifying current and future capability gaps across field and office operations and aligning learning initiatives with the company's strategic goals and workforce planning needs
  • Create annual and multi-year training and development roadmaps aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Partner with field leadership and department leaders to identify skill gaps, ramp‑up new employees, develop crew foremen, rollout new equipment, meet customer requirements, adopt technology and meet quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead Premise's craft development strategy by working with apprenticeship organizations, supporting apprentice progression, coordinating technical instruction, developing mentoring programs, measuring apprentice success and supporting journeyman development
  • Develop and deliver learning using a blended approach that includes classroom instruction, virtual learning, jobsite coaching, hands‑on demonstrations, e‑learning and video instruction
  • Partner with subject matter experts to create technical content and ensure it remains current and relevant.
  • Own and continuously improve onboarding programs that deliver a consistent, high‑quality experience for every employee, accelerating time to productivity while reinforcing Premise's culture, values, safety expectations, and quality standards.
  • Design, develop and deliver leadership development programs that build the skills, confidence, and effectiveness of leaders at all levels.
  • Develop and maintain the company's operational knowledge documentation including standard operating procedures, field manuals, work instructions, best practices, videos, checklists, and technical reference guides. Ensure institutional knowledge is documented and shared throughout the organization.
  • Build a culture of continuous learning that supports Premise’s corporate value of “Be Ready to Learn”
  • Manage all learning operations including learning management system (LMS), monthly training calendar, instructor scheduling, vendor relationships, and compliance documentation
  • Establish metrics that demonstrate business impact and continuously evaluate programs and implement improvements based on business outcomes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Seven or more years of progressive experience in Learning & Development to include the following:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Construction, electrical contracting, utility, telecommunications, or industrial experience strongly preferred
  • Experience leading apprenticeship programs

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit, walk, lift, talk, hear, see, reach, grasp and use hands and fingers to operate a computer key board, telephone, and other office equipment. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The employee performs the essential functions of this job in a normal indoor office environment.
