Job summary

iO Associates is seeking a hands-on engineering leader to drive the next phase of a Fixed Income electronic trading platform in New York. You will blend deep Java expertise with domain knowledge in electronic trading, order management, pricing, and risk controls to deliver high-performance, low-latency systems.

In this Director/ED role, you will mentor engineers, shape architecture, and partner with traders to deliver scalable and resilient trading solutions across rates and FICC workflows.

Qualifications

• Strong Core Java expertise.
• Deep understanding of multithreading, concurrency and performance tuning.
• Experience building low-latency, high-throughput applications.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems architecture.
• Experience with FIX and electronic trading workflows.
• Experience with Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC).
• Strong SQL and database experience.
• Experience working with messaging technologies such as MQ, JMS or similar.
• Experience with CI/CD and automated testing frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across a team of engineers.
• Drive architecture, engineering standards and software design best practices.
• Mentor developers and promote engineering excellence through code reviews.
• Lead development streams from design through production deployment.
• Design, build and enhance low-latency electronic trading systems.
• Own critical components across order management, execution, pricing and market connectivity.
• Work directly with traders and business stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions.
• Drive platform reliability, observability and platform roadmaps.
