Job summary

The American Association for State and Local History seeks a Director to lead the Interpretive Center. This role drives operations, educational programming, exhibits, and public interpretation in line with scholarly standards and the Authority's mission.

You will oversee daily Center activities, staff, and partnerships with schools and community groups. Qualifications include a Bachelor's in History/Public History, plus professional public history experience and staff leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in History, Public History, Museum Studies, Education, or related field.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in historical interpretation or museum operations.
• Experience supervising employees and managing programs or operations.
• Experience developing and coordinating educational or public programming.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee day-to-day operation of the Interpretive Center.
• Develop operating policies, standards, and guidelines for the Center.
• Ensure engaging and accurate historical interpretation for visitors.
• Coordinate exhibits, interpretive materials, and public spaces.
• Lead annual and long-range planning for the Center's operation and development.
• Supervise staff, educators, and volunteers; manage budgets and reporting.
