Job summary

Morningstar is seeking a Director of Institutional Research to produce forward‑looking market insights and strengthen Morningstar Indexes’ thought leadership from Chicago. The role focuses on research that informs product strategy and client engagement across asset classes.

The ideal candidate has 8–10 years in investment research, excellent writing and presentation skills, and a proven ability to translate insights into commercial outcomes. CFA progress and willingness to travel are preferred.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years experience in investment research, multi-asset analysis, or index research.
• Ability to write clear, accessible research for commercial audiences.
• Experience guiding project teams in a matrix environment.
• Strategic thinker who translates insights into business outcomes.
• Strong capital markets knowledge and fluency with financial data tools.

Responsibilities

• Set research agenda for Morningstar Indexes with input from product, sales and leadership.
• Create insights, commentary, and thought leadership for internal and external audiences.
• Collaborate with product managers, quant researchers, and strategists to produce white papers and market commentaries.
• Set research standards and mentor research associates.
• Lead collaboration with broader Morningstar research ecosystem to identify IP.
• Present research at industry conferences, client meetings, and webinars.
