Job description

About Pendulum

Pendulum® is leading a revolution that is occurring around the world to improve physical and mental health by first understanding, then restoring and enhancing the human microbiome.

Studies have shown that our microbiome (the bacterial communities and in and on our bodies) is linked to everything from metabolism and diabetes, to longevity, weight loss, healthy immune systems, cancer prevention, feelings of well‑being, inflammatory bowel disease, and even healthy skin. We have just scratched the surface on understanding the impact that our microbiome has on our lives. During early life we develop a diverse and balanced microbiome that plays a critical role in shaping our long‑term health. Over our lives, a combination of diet, lifestyle, antibiotics, and aging can decrease the effectiveness of our microbiome.

Pendulum recognized the enormous impact they could have on people’s lives if they were able to address the imbalances in the microbiome. To accomplish this, Pendulum created proprietary probiotic pipelines and a unique discovery platform to identify key, novel bacterial strains and the prebiotics that feed them. The company has also built and developed the world’s first manufacturing technology to produce bacteria in an anaerobic (oxygen-free) environment at scale.

The medical probiotics that Pendulum has formulated have transformed the consumer probiotics market into a new category of therapeutic offerings that deliver the power and efficacy of a pharmaceutical with the safety and accessibility of a natural probiotic. Due to Pendulum’s explosive revenue and customer growth over the last two years, the company earned a spot on Forbes Magazine’s exclusive “The Next Billion Dollar Startups” list.

The Opportunity

Pendulum is seeking a Director, Influencer Marketing to build an industry-defining influencer platform that establishes Pendulum as the most credible and trusted brand in microbiome science—and turns that trust into meaningful brand and revenue growth.

This is an opportunity to architect the strategy, not simply manage an existing program. You will determine how Pendulum engages the full spectrum of influential voices—from scientists, physicians and other trusted experts to customers, cultural tastemakers, creators, celebrities and performance-driven affiliates. You will build a portfolio in which each plays a distinct role in earning consumer trust, educating the market, shaping the category and driving demand.

The ideal candidate is an ambitious strategist, relationship builder and hands‑on operator. You can deeply understand the science behind Pendulum’s differentiation and translate it into stories that are credible, compelling and highly shareable. You recognize that trust must be earned through authentic voices, scientific integrity and consistent execution—and you know how to build a strategy that protects that trust while accelerating growth. You bring strong creative instincts, commercial discipline and the drive to roll up your sleeves—identifying talent, building relationships, developing breakthrough content, negotiating partnerships, analyzing performance and continuously improving the model.

You will serve as the connective tissue across Pendulum’s marketing organization, partnering closely with our external PR firm and our creative, organic, growth and DTC teams to ensure influencer storytelling is amplified across earned, owned and paid channels. Your work will help define how consumers understand the microbiome, why they trust Pendulum and why Pendulum is uniquely positioned to lead the category.

Success will be measured by your ability to build a scalable influencer engine that consistently generates distinctive content, deepens consumer trust, strengthens Pendulum’s authority and delivers measurable business results. Key indicators will include brand and category leadership, content quality and effectiveness, organic reach and engagement, earned‑media impact, qualified site traffic, conversion efficiency, customer acquisition and revenue growth.

What You’ll Do
  • Performance-focused influencer strategy. Establish the strategic vision for how influencer‑led storytelling builds trust, consumerizes our science, sparks advocacy and drives action, fueling both brand equity and measurable customer acquisition and revenue growth.

  • Diversified influencer portfolio. Build a reliable influencer pipeline aligned to brand and growth priorities, defining the role of macro‑ and micro‑influencers (including health & wellness and lifestyle influencers), celebrity talent, health care practitioners and other subject‑matter experts, and customer advocates.

  • Productive influencer partnerships. Cultivate authentic relationships and long‑term partnerships with cultural voices, healthcare experts and creators who can inspire community and make microbiome science and gut health engaging, relatable and accessible to everyone while increasing influencer‑generated new customers.

  • Disciplined testing and optimization. Work closely with the DTC team to develop clear frameworks for campaign types (organic vs. paid, affiliate vs. whitelisted) and creative, systematic testing approaches (testimonial vs. quote, still vs. motion, clinical vs. lifestyle storytelling) to consistently improve influencer CAC and revenue efficiency.

  • High sharable messaging and formats. Collaborate with the Creative team as well as Clinical and Regulatory to provide strategic guidance to influencers to balance creator authenticity with Pendulum’s science‑forward guardrails, while developing messaging and formats that scale.

  • Multi‑platform reach. Scale our influencer program across various channels, including organic, DTC (including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, podcasts, newsletters and other emerging platforms), HCP and Wholesale channels.

  • External agency & partner management. Partner with our PR firm, talent agencies and affiliate network to drive influencer relationships, creator content and credible expert voices that convert into meaningful coverage and thought‑leadership opportunities, and measurable, durable outcomes.

  • Dependable process and reporting. Create and own holistic dashboards and reports delivered on a weekly, monthly and quarterly cadence to ensure accountability, transparency, iterative optimization informed by top‑performing campaigns, and predictable growth.

  • Team development. Mentor and develop Pendulum’s Manager, Influencer Marketing to build a high-performing Influencer team.

  • Cross‑functional long‑term planning. Represent influencer marketing in cross‑functional planning - annual and quarterly brand and growth planning, launch calendars, and budget cycles - so influencer activity is sequenced with PR, paid media and retail moments.

How You’ll Measure Success

The Director, Influencer Marketing will develop and own the frameworks and metrics that measure the effectiveness of Pendulum’s influencer strategy, including applicable PR and DTC metrics, ensuring all activities deliver against both brand‑building and business‑driving objectives. Success will be defined not only by engagement and reach, but by Pendulum’s ability to earn trust, solidify its position as the leader in microbiome health, and drive measurable customer acquisition and revenue growth.

  • Team aligned on the guidelines for influencer performance (investment vs ROI).

  • Growing organic consumer engagement (followers, likes, shares) and paid‑media performance (traffic, CVR, CAC, affiliate revenue and AOV), as well as amplification/earned media impressions and fatigue thresholds.

  • Growing cohort performance by talent type (e.g., HCPs, RDs, micro‑influencers, marquee voices).

  • Share of voice in microbiome, gut health, and metabolic health conversations.

  • Pendulum influencers selected to speak at conferences, panels and cultural forums as well as participate in bylines, interviews and citations.

Who We’re Looking For
  • 7+ years of experience in marketing (with a strong focus on influencer marketing, social media, and content strategy), along with a proven track record of executing campaigns that drive engagement, brand awareness and measurable growth.

  • Several years in a managerial or director‑level role, demonstrating the ability to own and lead our influencer strategy, as well as mentor team members.

  • Strong strategic planning and communication skills, enabling you to collaborate cross‑functionally and unify efforts across the organization.

  • Proven success working with and through external agency partners (PR, talent, affiliate networks), influencing outcomes and driving alignment without direct authority.

  • A demonstrated ability to combine creative storytelling with data‑driven decision‑making.

  • Experience in the health, wellness, or healthcare sector is highly preferred.

  • BA Required; MBA or Masters a plus.
