Job description

  • Manage and supervise activities related to prevention, control, documentation, and reporting of healthcare-associated infections and communicable diseases across critical care units
  • Set standards and evaluate compliance with healthcare-associated infection prevention and control practices
  • Conduct surveillance, analysis, and reporting
  • Design, lead, and maintain a hospital-based infection prevention and control program
  • Direct, manage, and operate the infection prevention and control/epidemiology department
  • Educate hospital personnel and consult with the organization, CDC, county, and state health departments
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, and state regulations
  • Investigate outbreaks and direct the infection prevention and control program
  • Work with system and operating-entity leaders and medical staff to improve infection-prevention-related quality and clinical outcomes
  • Forecast budgetary and staffing needs, manage expenses, and address budget variances
  • Establish and administer departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
  • Review hospital policies and guidelines, identify discrepancies, and implement revisions
  • Assess performance, analyze infection outcome data, and identify improvement opportunities and trends
  • Conduct high-level assessments and analyze data for administrative and clinical decision-making
  • Develop and coordinate the facility-wide infection prevention and control program
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert to staff, leaders, medical staff, patients, and the community
  • Initiate epidemiological investigations of infection clusters and unusual infections
  • Support emerging-infection, public-health-crisis, and emergency-management activities
  • Prepare reports and statistical data for committees, medical staff, and facility administration
  • Contribute to system-level infection prevention activities for large healthcare entities with more than 100 beds
Requirements
  • Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Business Administration (MBA), or master's degree in another healthcare-related field; alternatively, a bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field and experience equivalent to a master's degree
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required
  • Active Basic Life Support certification expected for Infection Prevention Team members working primarily in an acute or ambulatory job location
  • Five years of experience in infection prevention or disease surveillance experience in a public health setting
  • Demonstrated flexibility in responding to multiple constituencies with a service-oriented philosophy
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated skill in problem analysis, project management, conflict resolution, and oral and written presentations
  • Ability to balance and manage multiple projects
  • Computer skills, research, and basic statistical knowledge preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
  • On-call availability required
