A leading health insurance company is seeking a Director, Income Tax Accounting to oversee their tax accounting and reporting function. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in corporate tax accounting and CPA certification, and will lead a team to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory standards. This role includes collaborating with external auditors and improving tax reporting efficiency. The position is remote with occasional office travel.

Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation, review, and analysis of the company’s quarterly and annual income tax provisions underASC 740andSSAP 101, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
Oversee tax-related disclosures in SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K) and statutory financial statements, including footnotes and management commentary.
Manage the global and statutoryeffective tax rate (ETR)forecasting and analysis process.
Partner with external auditors and regulatory bodies to support audits and examinations.
Ensure appropriate internal controls over tax accounting and reporting, including compliance withSOX 404requirements.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Regulatory Financial Reporting, et al to align tax accounting with business strategy and regulatory expectations.
Monitor and assess the impact of changes in tax laws, accounting standards, and regulatory guidance, particularly those affecting health insurance and health care operations.
Collaborate with VP of Tax, tax compliance team, and others on valuation allowance needs analysis, accounting for uncertain tax positions, and accounting for tax considerations unique to joint ventures.
Support M&A activities including due diligence, structuring, and integration from a tax accounting perspective.
Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Drive automation and process enhancements to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of tax reporting.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance;CPA required, Master’s in Tax or Accounting preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax accounting, including leadership roles.
Deep technical knowledge ofASC 740, U.S. GAAP, and guiding accounting principles.
Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax laws and regulations.
Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
Proficiency with tax provision software (e.g., OneSource Tax Provision) and ERP systems (e.g., Oracle)
Required Qualifications
Experience in a health care or insurance company or a Big 4 firm serving clients in this industry.
Familiarity with SSAP 101 statutory accounting principles.
Familiarity with NAIC reporting requirements and state insurance department expectations.
Familiarity with international tax issues and transfer pricing.
Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and attention to detail.
Proven ability to lead through change and influence cross-functional teams.
Commitment to operational excellence.
Process improvement mindset and strong desire to reduce complexity and leverage technology to create and enhance efficiencies within the tax accounting function.
Additional Information
Hybrid/work-at-home considered. Preference for geographic location near Humana offices.
Occasional travel to Humana offices may be required.

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$168,000 - $231,000 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan.
