Job summary

The American Medical Association in Chicago, IL is seeking a Director I, Content (Hybrid) to lead content development, publishing and convening/learning opportunities for the PS2 unit, including the AMA STEPS Forward Program. This role collaborates with physician faculty and internal stakeholders, overseeing budgets, data analysis, CME certification, and cross-platform content strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience leading educational content development, publishing and event development/planning/management.
  • 3+ years’ experience with staff management, with proven ability to lead full-time and contract creatives and producers.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated analytical and data-driven approach to issues. Experience with Google Analytics data and knowledge of SEO best practices required.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals from different disciplines across a matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated success applying adult learning concepts, technologies, and evaluation practices.
  • Passionate storyteller, with the ability to take complex topics and slice them into easily consumable content assets.
  • Experience or familiarity with health systems, physician leadership, and/or organizational well-being would be strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing budgets and exceptional time and project management skills.
  • Experience with creating content for practice improvement and clinician audiences preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops long-term plan and operational plans for PS2 activation content and convening/learning opportunities aligning with business objectives and customer requirements.
  • Aligns content production, publishing, channel, and convening/learning strategy with data and business objectives to ensure impact and proper allocation of budget.
  • Responsible for managing department content production and convening/learning budget.
  • Oversees vendor/contractor relationships, including vendor selection, contracting, and payment processing with support from PS2 administrative staff.
  • Oversees PS2 data collection, analysis and reporting—including KPI reports, dashboards and leadership presentations—and uses data to recommend opportunities for improvement, new content creation and content repackaging to meet short- and long-term business unit goals.
  • Oversees selection and prioritization of content for the PS2 publishing pipeline in collaboration with PS2 Leadership team.
  • Oversees the development of practical activation resources for diverse audiences.
  • Develops evaluation criteria for new and existing content to ensure the most relevant, up-to-date resources are available.
  • Establishes processes, develops project plans, and directs staff/resource allocation to ensure alignment of content and packaging with relevant AMA editorial and brand standards and overarching business unit goals.
  • Identifies continuous improvement and creates unit efficiencies.
  • In collaboration with Marketing and Membership Experience (MMX) and Ed Center editorial teams, performs site audits of PS2 content and makes recommendations on content enhancements.
  • In collaboration with AMA Ed Center, manages CME certification process for PS2 educational resources.
  • Collaborate with PS2 team members, MMX, and other AMA business units as necessary to develop a cohesive content strategy across platforms (e.g. web, podcasts, webinars).
  • and to align content with the AMA Organizational Biopsy® and Joy in Medicine™ Health System Recognition Programs and their audiences.
  • Leads day-to-day management and operations of PS2 content development and, convening/learning opportunities, and collaborates across PS2 for repackaging and crosslinking opportunities.

We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Director I, Content (Hybrid) on our Career Advancement Collective team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

This role leads content development, publishing and convening/learning opportunities (e.g. (Workshops, Conferences, Summits), to drive audience growthand engagement goals for the AMA’s Professional Satisfaction & PracticeSustainability (PS2) business unit, including the AMA STEPS Forward® Program. Works closely with the Activation Director and physician faculty onorganizational well-being initiatives across both large convenings and 1:1advisory engagements with health systems. Develops data-driven plan for contentdevelopment and convening/learning opportunities aligning with customerrequirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning & Budget

  • In partnership with the Sr Mgr Learning Design, oversees educational programming for PS2’s convening opportunities such as the CWO Forum, Product Advisory Council, learning collaboratives, etc.
  • Partners with physician faculty, and internal stakeholders to customize reusable facilitation and didactic materials and conversation supports.
  • Collaborates with Activation Director, physician faculty, MMX on 1:1 facilitation coaching and enablement with health systems.
  • Oversees speaker and presenter preparation and coaching to strengthen facilitation and presentation skills and techniques.
People Management
  • Lead, mentor, and provide management oversight for staff.
  • Responsible for setting objectives, evaluating employee performance, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Responsible for developing staff knowledge and skills to support career development.

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree required.
  2. 10+ years of experience leading educationalcontent development, publishing and event development/planning/management.
  3. 3+ years’ experience with staffmanagement, with proven ability to lead full-time and contract creatives andproducers.
  4. Exceptional writing and editingskills, with keen attention to detail.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $128,906 - $174,241. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration and geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
