Oura is seeking a Director, Sensing Technologies to lead the development and integration of advanced sensing technologies into our wearable devices. You will define our sensing roadmap, evaluate new sensor technologies, and optimize sensor performance to provide accurate health insights.

What You'll Do:

1. Technical Leadership: Build and lead a team of hardware, optics, and sensing engineers to develop new capabilities and technologies.
2. Sensing Technology Roadmap: Define and drive the long-term sensing technology strategy aligned with product goals.
3. Sensor Evaluation: Research, evaluate, and select new sensor technologies such as PPG, accelerometers, gyroscopes, and temperature sensors.
4. Sensor Integration: Lead sensor integration, optimizing placement and data acquisition.
5. Sensor Performance Optimization: Develop algorithms to improve accuracy, reliability, and power efficiency.
6. Algorithm Development: Collaborate on signal processing and machine learning algorithms for sensor data.
7. Vendor Management: Manage relationships with sensor vendors, negotiate specifications, ensure quality and delivery.
8. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with engineering, firmware, software, and product teams for seamless integration.
9. System-Level Optimization: Optimize hardware, firmware, and software for performance and power consumption.
10. Testing and Validation: Oversee sensor testing to ensure reliability.
11. Technology Scouting: Stay updated on sensing tech advancements through conferences and research engagement.

Requirements:

• 10+ years in sensing technology development, preferably in wearables or medical devices.
• Deep understanding of optical, inertial, and physiological sensors.
• Experience with sensor signal processing and algorithms.
• Knowledge of sensor calibration and validation techniques.
• Experience with hardware design and integration.
• Familiarity with low-power design principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data skills.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.

Bonus Points:

• Experience in health and wellness sensing tech.
• Knowledge of machine learning for sensor data.
• Experience with physiological signals like PPG or ECG.
• Understanding of medical device regulations.
