Job Summary:

The Director provides effective fiscal management for Housing and Residence Life (HRL), including financial planning, budget oversight, and related functions for this auxiliary department, based on best practices for residential communities in a university setting. Serve as advisor to the Executive Director, developing and implementing recommendations to expand and sustain the HRL program. Supervise accounting staff for all business functions. In addition, the Director will supervise the Marketing and Communication staff for HRL, as well as the Information Technology support for residential facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Budget Management, Financial Planning, & Operations Support

  • In support of the Executive Director, develop, implement, and manage the annual operating budget for Housing and Residence Life, ensuring alignment with UTA and Student Affairs policies and financial objectives.
  • Oversee revenue projections, expense monitoring, and financial forecasting to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
  • Provide regular financial reports, analysis, and recommendations to the Executive Director and VP for Student Affairs based on best practices in financial management for residential environments in higher education.
  • Support the Executive Director in collaboration with other relevant departments in managing immediate facilities needs, as well as developing short and long-term capital investment plans to ensure facilities are properly maintained and enhanced to support strategic priorities.
  • Develop recommendations for long-term financial strategies, including capital planning and reserves management for facility improvements and housing operations.

Financial Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with UTA financial policies, state and federal regulations, and housing-related financial agreements.
  • Develop and maintain financial controls, audits, and risk management protocols.
  • Oversee contracts, vendor agreements, and procurement processes related to housing services and operations.
  • Monitor and manage student housing fees, billing, and collection processes in collaboration with UTA’s business and budget-related departments.
  • Supervise business/accounting staff within HRL, providing leadership, professional development, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with UTA finance, facilities, other Student Affairs, and auxiliary services to align financial strategies with institutional priorities, policies, and procedures.
  • Represent Housing and Residence Life in financial discussions, appropriate committees, and related strategic planning initiatives within Student Affairs and across UTA.

Revenue & Business Strategy

  • Analyze housing occupancy trends and market conditions in the surrounding communities, and review internal data across all funding sources to develop pricing strategies to optimize revenue generation within the context of UTA’s and Student Affairs’ strategic goals.
  • Identify opportunities for financial growth through innovative business models, auxiliary services, and partnerships, including effective use of summer residential opportunities for students, guests, and UTA-sponsored or hosted camps and residential programs.
  • Develop financial models for new housing initiatives, renovations, and facility expansions as part of ongoing five-year business plan.

Additional Areas of Coordination

  • Coordinated the Marketing and Communications efforts of HRL in partnership with Division and campus partners to promote living on campus, programming within residential communities, summer opportunities in residential facilities, and related online and print resources.
  • Coordinate the Information Technology efforts within HRL to support technology needs for the department and its residential facilities.
  • Performs other duties as needed in support of business and other operations of the HRL department and other Student Affairs areas.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or accounting
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting and budgeting management, financial planning, and business operations.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Option of twelve (12) years of equivalent experience and education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or a related field.
  • Experience supervising accounts payable and general accounting in a university housing, student affairs, or auxiliary services area, with background in housing occupancy management, fee structures, and billing processes.
  • Other University or government-related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
