Job description

Lead and advance Health Information Management at Samaritan Healthcare! Step into the Director of Health Information Management (HIM) role at a newly opened hospital in the scenic landscape of Washington State, where you’ll have the opportunity to shape HIM operations and support the organization’s continued growth.

The Position

Samaritan Healthcare is seeking a Director of Health Information Management to provide strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s HIM and medical records functions while serving as its HIPAA Privacy Officer.
This role offers the opportunity to strengthen core HIM operations, advance clinical documentation improvement, and ensure health information practices support regulatory compliance, quality care, and organizational growth.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director will lead a team of approximately 23 FTEs, supported by established coding leads across inpatient and outpatient functions. The Director will provide strategic oversight of professional and hospital coding, document imaging and integrity, identity management, release of information, content management, health information exchange, record retention, CDI, and privacy compliance.
A key priority will be evaluating and advancing the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) program. The Director will assess current practices, identify opportunities to improve effectiveness, and help determine the appropriate structure and working relationship between HIM and Case Management. This leader will develop a strategic plan to strengthen CDI and support accurate, complete clinical documentation.
The Director will also evaluate HIM workflows, standardize processes where appropriate, and identify opportunities to improve information integrity, accessibility, and operational efficiency. Working closely with Revenue Cycle, clinical departments, IT, Quality, and Compliance, this leader will ensure HIM functions are aligned with organizational priorities and support effective clinical and financial outcomes.
As HIPAA Privacy Officer, the Director will oversee privacy policies, workforce education, compliance monitoring, and the investigation and coordination of responses to privacy incidents. The role requires strong knowledge of applicable regulations and the ability to guide leaders and staff in the appropriate use, protection, and disclosure of protected health information.
The ideal candidate will bring broad HIM leadership experience, technical knowledge across coding and medical records functions, and the ability to assess programs and implement meaningful improvements. A collaborative, relationship-oriented leader, this individual will build strong partnerships with coding leads, executive leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders while developing a long-term vision for HIM that supports Samaritan’s continued growth.
