Job summary

Moultrie in Birmingham, Alabama seeks a Director of R&D to lead the integration of Mechanical, Electrical, and Firmware into a shippable product. You will define standards, checkpoints, and manage the process across disciplines from concept through EVT/DVT/PVT to mass production, delivering documentation and phase-gate exits with program management support.

You will collaborate with Validation to ensure tests cover functionality and performance, plan resourcing, and own cross-disciplinary

Qualifications

• 10+ years in hardware product development for complex, connected electronics.
• Experience spanning Mechanical, Electrical, and Firmware disciplines.
• Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and scaling from prototype to high-volume production.
• Experience with JDM/ODM manufacturing partners, including handoff and verification.
• Technical fluency across Mechanical Design, Electrical/PCBA layout, and embedded firmware architecture.
• Experience with PLM systems and engineering change processes.
• Strong background in engineering documentation and drawing standards.
• Experience developing outdoor consumer or industrial electronic products.
• Willingness to travel to offshore manufacturing sites (Asia) for tool trials, line audits, and production ramp-up support.

Responsibilities

• ENGINEERING PROCESS OWNERSHIP: Define and maintain the review process for hardware programs (concept, prototyping, EVT/DVT/PVT, production ramp).
• CROSS-DISCIPLINE COORDINATION: Spot misalignments and fix the process across Mechanical, Electrical, and Firmware.
• VALIDATION & TEST COVERAGE: Ensure test plans cover functionality, performance, and stability on every program.
• JDM/ODM PROCESS MANAGEMENT: Own the process for communication with JDM/ODM manufacturing partners.
• Director, R&D: Support factory builds by ensuring the right process and documentation travels with the program.
• PROGRAM & RISK PROCESS: Plan resourcing, track milestones, mitigate risk, and escalate issues.
