Job summary

Goodwill of North Georgia is seeking a Development Manager to lead grant initiatives for Career Services programs. This role focuses on securing multi-million dollar funding and building strong relationships with foundations and funders.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in development or related field and at least four years grant experience, including supervisory responsibilities. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for success in a flexible geographic

  • Proven track record in securing multi-million dollar grants and contracts at national level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Strong listening, analytical and planning skills; ability to manage multiple tasks under deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to learn new software.
  • Well organized and detail oriented; able to work independently.
  • Willingness to travel; flexible in geographic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement funding plans with leadership for Career Services programs.
  • Identify and secure private and public funding opportunities.
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals to funders.
  • Maintain records, calendars and reports on progress.
  • Lead grant efforts with funders, including reports and meetings.
  • Ensure grant compliance and serve as the primary contact for funds.
  • Recruit, train and supervise grant staff.
  • Prepare annual IDPs and report progress.
  • Build community partnerships and maintain relationships with funders.
  • Submit annual/quarterly progress reports.
  • Adhere to CARF standards and safety regulations.

Job description

  • Work with leadership team to develop funding plans and strategies on behalf of designated Career Services mission programs and services in support of Career Services annual plans and Goodwill strategic priorities.
  • Develop and secure third-party funding to meet and/or exceed the annual budgeted grant funding priorities for assigned grant(s) and mission projects.
  • Research and identify private and public funding opportunities.
  • Prepare, write and submit grant and project plans to private and public funders (foundations, corporations, federal, state and local entities).
  • Create and maintain accurate and effective development-related records, calendars and database, reporting progress regularly to Career Services leadership.
  • Organize and lead site visits and meetings with funders and other stakeholders as assigned.
  • Lead assigned grant efforts with current and prospective funders, including strategies for implementation, ongoing communication, production of progress reports, scheduling and participating in meetings and events associated with assigned grant(s) and projects.
  • Ensure grant/contract compliance and performance for CS Department serving as the point of contact for assigned grant funding.
  • Recruit, hire, develop and supervise qualified personnel on the assigned grant team, following all human resources policies, to successfully accomplish the mission and meet objectives set out in the Operating Plan.
  • Ensure timely and accurate performance evaluations for all grant staff employing the approved agency process.
  • Prepare annual individual development plan (IDP) for work and professional development and report progress in achieving goals for self and with direct reports.
  • Provide leadership and/or support in development of community partners for assigned CS programs and initiatives. Develop and maintain quality relationships with funding and community partners, including frequent visits and face-to-face interaction.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of operation in accordance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures, CARF standards, and safety/security regulations.
  • Participate in cross division and cross department teams, as assigned.
  • Submit annual and quarterly reports on progress toward goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in development, business or related field with four (4) years minimum grant-related work experience, two (2) years of which supervising staff required.
  • For Internal Candidates only: If an otherwise qualified candidate does not have the required educational degree, the candidate may still be considered as long as the degree is earned within a specified timeframe set by the Director as a condition of hire for this position.
  • Proven track record in successfully securing multi-million dollar grants and funding contracts at a national level.
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience to take charge of fund development efforts.
  • Accurate, effective, and compelling communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Strong listening, analytical and planning skills.
  • Ability and commitment to manager multiple tasks and projects while meeting aggressive deadlines and outcomes.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with capacity to learn new software.
  • Well organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.

Ability to provide positive leadership in a flexible geographic environment where self-direction, prioritizing and organizational skills will be crucial to success, including ability to be flexible in hours and work locations (across greater service area) to accommodate the needs of the Program and Goodwill.

  • Professional appearance and ability to effectively represent Goodwill in a variety of settings.
Working Environment Conditions/Requirements
  • The ability to push, pull and lift 20lbs. with or without accommodations.
  • Must be able to safely operate a vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements to perform all duties relating to Career Services including driving, material handling, transporting and carrying documents, handbooks and various supplies.
