Charter's State Government Affairs team aims to achieve the company's franchising, legislative, and regulatory goals at the state and local levels. They are seeking a bright, determined, and committed Director of Government Affairs to help drive Charter's policy priorities.

BE PART OF THE CONNECTION

As a Director of Government Affairs, you will develop, coordinate, and execute government affairs strategies to support the company's growth and influence locally. You will collaborate with regional senior leaders to advocate before local legislative bodies and regulatory agencies, represent the company in governmental and administrative settings, oversee external affairs and community engagement, contribute to strategic planning, and manage impactful activities and events. You will report directly to the area Vice President, leveraging your legislative and regulatory experience to make a meaningful impact.

  • Building relationships with public officials and influential policymakers at all levels.
  • Managing collaboration with senior leadership, team members, and outside consultants.
  • Growing grassroots and third-party support for the company's interests.
  • Developing strategies and executing initiatives to enhance the company's community presence.
  • Assisting in developing and managing political contribution strategies in accordance with laws.
  • Representing the company to external constituencies and at community events.
  • Drafting, analyzing, and presenting legislation, amendments, testimony, and related materials for advocacy.
  • Serving as a liaison with local organizations and industry forums.
  • Managing outside counsel, consultants, and lobbyists.
  • Handling escalated complaints from government authorities.
  • Managing franchise renewal efforts, including developing strategies, securing renewals, and ensuring compliance.
  • Resolving franchise issues and interpreting franchise agreements.
  • Identifying government procurement opportunities and facilitating discussions.
  • Managing relationships with local officials in expansion areas.
  • Supporting outreach and interactions related to business objectives.
  • Aligning community strategies with company priorities in coordination with leadership.
  • Performing other duties as needed.

The team educates officials about Charter's policies and advocates for laws and regulations that support the company's priorities. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure Charter's interests and customers are represented effectively in policy matters.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • At least eight years of experience in the cable or regulated industry, government, public policy, or legislative arenas.
  • Background in law, government, or public policy.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks.
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills under pressure.
  • Ability to analyze legislation, regulation, contracts, and legal documents.
  • Proficiency with computer software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations).
  • Exercise of independent judgment, discretion, and high ethical standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of cable, telecommunications, broadband products, and services.
  • Advocacy, lobbying, and negotiation skills.
  • Political and government relations experience.
  • Understanding of state and local government processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in public administration, law, or related field.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Normal office environment.
  • Frequent travel.
  • Consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • This role may be based in various locations in Northern LA.

Employees are valued for their contributions. The salary range for this position is approximately $107,900 to $191,100, based on skills, experience, and location. We comply with local wage laws and offer additional incentives such as bonuses where applicable.
