Job summary

Cerberus Operations & Advisory Company (COAC) in New York seeks a tax attorney with 6+ years of experience to join the tax team. You will focus on transactional tax structuring across private equity, real estate, credit, and related platforms, reporting to the Chief Tax Officer.

This role offers partner-track potential, exposure to global structuring, fund-level responsibilities, and collaboration with investment, legal, accounting, and compliance professionals on complex transactions.

Qualifications

• JD required with at least 6 years of tax experience in a law or advisory setting.
• Experience with transactional tax work and investment structuring across asset classes.
• Strong understanding of FIRPTA, REITs, ECI, UBTI, Subchapters C/K, withholding, and international tax.
• Excellent communication and ability to influence across legal, investment, accounting, and tax teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide tax structuring support throughout the investment lifecycle (acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings, M&A).
• Collaborate with investment, legal, business, and external advisors on structuring solutions.
• Analyze tax issues and translate into practical structuring recommendations.
• Advise on fund-level tax matters, including fund structuring, documentation, and diligence.
• Coordinate external counsel and accounting firms and integrate advice into plans.
• Advise the Chief Tax Officer on tax strategy and global operations.
• Monitor U.S. and global tax developments affecting funds, investments, and the firm.
• Support tax compliance across the firm and investment structures.
