Job description

This position provides executive leadership over the procurement and supplier‑management function for a Long Island–based company engaged in aerospace work. The Director is accountable for defining sourcing direction, strengthening supplier capabilities, and ensuring that purchasing operations effectively support both immediate production requirements and long‑range organizational goals. Success in this role requires strong leadership instincts, the ability to coordinate across multiple departments, and a continuous‑improvement mindset.

Primary Areas of Responsibility
  • Procurement Strategy Development – Develop purchasing approaches that reduce total cost while upholding quality expectations and compliance obligations
  • Cost Efficiency Initiatives – Champion cost‑improvement programs that produce quantifiable savings across the sourcing organization
  • Supplier Discovery & Evaluation – Perform market and capability assessments to identify suppliers able to support diverse production demands
  • Operational Trend Analysis – Monitor data for early signs of quality, delivery, or capacity concerns and communicate proactively
  • Supplier Performance Governance – Oversee supplier execution after award, cultivate long‑term supplier relationships, and implement structured corrective actions when required
  • Risk & Continuity Management – Lead efforts to identify vulnerabilities in the supply chain and implement mitigation strategies to ensure uninterrupted material flow
  • Cross‑Functional Integration – Work closely with engineering, operations, quality, and finance to resolve supplier issues and ensure procurement activities align with broader business needs
  • Regulatory & Quality Compliance – Ensure procurement activities comply with FAR, DAR, ITAR, and internal quality‑management requirements
  • Team Coaching & Development – Guide, mentor, and develop procurement personnel, ensuring the team has opportunities for growth and skill expansion
  • Data & Systems Accuracy – Oversee the accuracy of procurement‑related information within ERP systems
  • Process Optimization – Utilize root‑cause methodologies to improve supply chain performance and operational efficiency
Qualifications & Education
  • Demonstrated success negotiating complex supply agreements
  • Experience working within FAR
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and variation‑reduction tools preferred
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in procurement, supply chain, or related leadership roles.
