Seattle Children’s invites applications for the Director of the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR). The Director reports to the Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer and will provide strategic planning, research leadership, and program administration for CGIDR, SCRI, and the broader Seattle Children’s research enterprise.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO or foreign equivalent; a PhD in a relevant health-related field, or foreign equivalent, is also acceptable.
  • Physicians who will be actively involved in patient care must be fully licensed and eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of Washington.
  • Ten years prior experience in leading an extramurally funded research program.
  • Academic record sufficient to merit appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor at the University of Washington.
  • In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the USMLE or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Responsibilities

  • Engage, lead, and energize the CGIDR scientific community to build new initiatives and collaborations across and outside the organization.
  • Recruit and develop outstanding faculty; maintain state-of-the-art infrastructure; catalyze multidisciplinary infectious disease research; diversify funding.
  • Bridge gaps between clinical practice and research to ensure that advancements are integrated to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Identify strategic priorities for investment; provide leadership in basic and translational research; create an environment of equity, inclusion, and belonging; manage finance and administration.
