The Director, Global Medical Publications will support Otsuka in leading and developing an overall scientific communication strategy for publications and congresses, and will work closely with the Global Medical Affairs Teams, Clinical Teams, Global Value & Real-World Evidence Teams, and Publications Management Specialists to plan and execute publication activity.
Job Description
- Lead the Strategic Publication Planning Group (SPPG) meetings for assigned compound(s) to compile cross-functional insights to inform the development of the scientific communication platforms (SCPs), lexicons, and global publication plans.
- Oversee the ongoing management of the Scientific Communication Platform and Lexicons for assigned compounds to keep them current.
- Work with the publication planning team and the Publication Working Groups (PWGs) to develop and execute global publication plans.
- Drive global communication strategies with medical affairs and clinical teams and ensure alignment of regional/local strategies.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external authors through engagement with ongoing publication activities, including congress presentation slide reviews and external publication steering committee meetings.
- Provide updates (or delegate) as appropriate to cross-functional teams on publication activities for assigned compounds.
- Facilitate the development of congress presentations with external authors prior to and onsite congresses (eg, slide reviews) including enhanced publication content.
- Support medical teams, regional teams, and global medical affairs, and other Otsuka stakeholders in engaging with the external medical community.
- Support digital and patient-centric communications activities including medical content for social platforms, digital data dissemination platforms, plain language summaries, scientific communication platforms, external landscape analyses, and global newsletters.
- Collaborate with Global Medical Operations and Communications leads and others to plan and develop content for internal and external educational sites.
- Contribute to strategic planning for global medical congresses with cross-functional teams in support of key data and scientific presence.
- Lead and contribute to internal communications regarding pre- and post-congress coverage reporting.
- Collaborate with Publications Management Team specialists to manage publication vendors, budgets, and operational activities as needed.
Qualifications/ Required:
Knowledge/ Experience and Skills:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the healthcare/pharmaceutical sector with 5+ years of experience in Medical Affairs/Scientific Publications/Medical Communications.
- Master's in Science is required; a doctoral level preferred, PhD, PharmD.
- 3+ years in a leadership position, managing a team.
- Experience in CNS, Nephrology or Rare Disease a +.
- Experience with scientific peer-reviewed publications, global medical communications, and industry publication best practices.
- Represent a function within a matrix organization through a strong track record of excellent presentation, customer-facing, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong track record of written and oral communication skills to develop and present scientific information to varied audiences and articulate messages succinctly.
- Understand detailed technical information and convey complex ideas to a variety of audience types and cultures.
- Quickly build rapport and credibility with key internal and key external stakeholders through strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills to track numerous tasks for multiple simultaneous projects in a deadline-oriented environment.

- Understanding of Datavision and other iEnvision modules highly preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 20% (domestic and international).
Educational Qualifications Required:
- Advanced scientific/healthcare degree required (PharmD, PhD, MS).
- ISMPP CMPP designation preferred.
