The Director, Global Medical Publications will support Otsuka in leading and developing an overall scientific communication strategy for publications and congresses. The role involves working closely with the Global Medical Affairs Teams, Clinical Teams, Global Value & Real-World Evidence Teams, and Publications Management Specialists to plan and execute publication activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Strategic Publication Planning Group (SPPG) meetings for assigned compounds to compile insights for developing scientific communication platforms, lexicons, and global publication plans.
- Oversee the management of the Scientific Communication Platform and Lexicons for assigned compounds, ensuring they are current.
- Work with publication planning teams and Working Groups to develop and execute global publication plans.
- Drive global communication strategies with medical affairs and clinical teams, ensuring regional and local strategy alignment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external authors involved in ongoing publication activities, including congress presentation reviews and steering committee meetings.
- Provide updates on publication activities to cross-functional teams and facilitate the development of congress presentations with external authors.
- Support digital and patient-centric communications, including social media content, digital dissemination platforms, and scientific communication platforms.
- Collaborate with global medical operations and communications teams to develop content for educational sites.
- Contribute to strategic planning for global medical congresses and internal/external communication regarding congress coverage.
- Manage publication vendors, budgets, and operational activities in collaboration with the Publications Management Team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 10 years in healthcare/pharmaceutical sector, with 5+ years in Medical Affairs, Scientific Publications, or Medical Communications.
- Master's degree in Science required; PhD or PharmD preferred.
- At least 3 years in a leadership role managing a team.
- Experience in CNS, Nephrology, or Rare Diseases is a plus.
- Proven ability to develop scientific content and communicate effectively to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and experience managing external vendors and budgets.
- Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
Educational Qualifications
- Advanced degree in scientific or healthcare field (PharmD, PhD, MS).
- ISMPP CMPP designation is preferred.

Salary Range and Benefits
