The Director, Global Medical Publications will support Otsuka in leading and developing an overall scientific communication strategy for publications and congresses. The role involves working closely with the Global Medical Affairs Teams, Clinical Teams, Global Value & Real-World Evidence Teams, and Publications Management Specialists to plan and execute publication activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Strategic Publication Planning Group (SPPG) meetings for assigned compounds to compile insights and develop scientific communication platforms, lexicons, and global publication plans.
- Manage the Scientific Communication Platform and Lexicons for assigned compounds to ensure they are current.
- Develop and execute global publication plans with the publication planning team and the Publication Working Groups (PWGs).
- Drive communication strategies with medical affairs and clinical teams, ensuring regional and local alignment.
- Build and maintain relationships with external authors through publication activities, congress presentation reviews, and steering committee meetings.
- Provide updates on publication activities to cross-functional teams.
- Facilitate congress presentation development with external authors, including slide reviews and publication content enhancements.
- Support engagement with the external medical community through digital and patient-centric communications, including social platforms and scientific communication platforms.
- Collaborate on content development for educational sites and contribute to strategic planning for global medical congresses.
- Lead internal communications regarding congress coverage and collaborate with Publications Management to oversee vendors, budgets, and operational activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10 years in healthcare/pharmaceutical sector, with 5+ years in Medical Affairs/Scientific Publications/Medical Communications.
- Master's in Science required; PhD or PharmD preferred.
- At least 3 years in a leadership role managing a team.
- Experience in CNS, Nephrology, or Rare Diseases is a plus. Knowledge of scientific peer-reviewed publications, global medical communications, and industry best practices.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey complex scientific information effectively.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Experience managing external vendors, budgets, and timelines.
- Diverse leadership capabilities including influencing, coaching, and collaboration.
- Understanding of Datavision and iEnvision modules is highly preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
Educational Qualifications
- Advanced scientific/healthcare degree (PharmD, PhD, MS).
- ISMPP CMPP designation is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $183,335 - $274,160 plus incentive. Benefits include comprehensive medical coverage, life insurance, disability, tuition reimbursement, 401(k), flexible time off, paid holidays, and more.
