Job description

Who We Are

International Justice Mission (IJM) is the global leader in protecting vulnerable people from violence worldwide. Our team of over 1,200 professionals operates in more than 30 offices globally. Our mission is to rescue millions, protect half a billion, and make justice unstoppable.

We are a caring global community that values how we work as much as the results we achieve. We strive to provide professional excellence with joy and celebration to all those we serve.

The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered efforts to protect vulnerable populations from violence. Our Justice System Strengthening Projects have consistently reduced slavery and violence by 50 to 85% among large populations living in poverty. As we aim to expand our impact to protect 500 million people, we seek a Director, Global Insights and Strategy.

As IJM develops a high-performing global marketing team, we need a strategic and operational leader to serve as our Senior Director, Global Insights & Strategy. This role is central to decision-making, scaling strategies, and translating insights into impact. Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer, this individual will oversee insight-to-activation processes—including global segmentation, trend forecasting, journey mapping, and service blueprint development—and will manage how we operate by building effective project and workflow systems.

The ideal candidate is a systems thinker and collaborative leader who can simplify complexity, ensure data-informed and audience-centered strategies, and facilitate their implementation across global teams. They will shape strategies and enable their execution, fostering alignment and elevating strategic impact worldwide.

This position is based in the Washington, DC area and requires the right to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Segmentation & Journey Strategy
  • Lead the continuous improvement of IJM’s global segmentation model.
  • Develop audience personas, donor journey maps, and service blueprints for use across creative, digital, and fundraising teams.
  • Ensure these tools are integrated into planning, campaign design, and product strategies.
  • Collaborate with researchers and analysts to refine segmentation using behavioral and engagement data.
  • Strategic Marketing Planning & Framework
  • Manage the global marketing strategic planning calendar and annual/quarterly rhythms.
  • Create toolkits and templates for strategic planning, initiative mapping, and performance tracking.
  • Facilitate alignment between global and regional teams to ensure strategic focus and resource clarity.
  • Support decision-making frameworks and enterprise-level prioritization for the CMO.
  • Trend Analysis & Insight Activation
  • Establish an internal trend tracking and foresight function to monitor market, sector, and audience shifts.
  • Translate insights into accessible formats like briefs, dashboards, and presentations for decision-making.
  • Lead synthesis of donor, brand, and campaign data into actionable insights.
  • Engage with external partners to enhance knowledge of behavioral and cultural trends.
  • Project & Workflow Management
  • Implement and oversee project management practices, including tools (e.g., Asana, Airtable), sprint cycles, and protocols.
  • Plan and allocate resources for cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ensure accountability to timelines and milestones across teams.
  • Promote a culture of clarity, agility, and execution within global marketing.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Influence
  • Build trust and understanding with regional marketing leaders and functional heads.
  • Serve as an operational partner to the CMO, providing insight, planning, and structure for complex initiatives.
  • Lead a team of strategists and project managers with clarity and excellence.
  • Communicate effectively with executive leaders and peers to gain alignment and accelerate decisions.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Behavioral Science, Strategy, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years in marketing strategy, customer insights, operations, or strategic planning roles.
  • At least 5 years in senior leadership managing cross-functional or cross-regional teams.
  • Proven experience with segmentation, journey mapping, trend analysis, or marketing operations at national or global levels.
  • Experience working in diverse cultural, time zone, and distributed team environments.
  • Technical Competencies
  • Proficiency with strategic planning tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
  • Experience with project management platforms (e.g., Teamwork, Asana) and workflow systems.
  • Knowledge of data visualization and insight tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Ability to translate data into strategic frameworks and briefs.
  • Understanding of customer experience design, segmentation, and marketing metrics.
  • Non-Technical Competencies
  • Strong orthodox Christian faith as defined by the Apostles’ Creed.
  • Passion for IJM’s mission and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Systems thinking ability, balancing strategic and operational perspectives.
  • Excellent communication and synthesis skills for diverse audiences.
