Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Director, Project Development to lead the delivery of the world’s first fusion power plants, including the ARC near Richmond, VA. You will manage permitting, interconnection, and financing while building a scalable playbook for future deployments.

You will guide a cross‑functional team, coordinate with legal and EHSS, and ensure schedule, budget, risk management, and stakeholder engagement are aligned with strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
• 5+ years of large capital project development and investment.
• Minimum 5 years project management experience.
• Demonstrated cross-functional project leadership experience.
• MS Excel proficiency.
• MS PowerPoint proficiency.
• MS Project or Primavera proficiency.
• Deep knowledge of project development and management across multiple domains.
• Experience in financing major projects.
• Proven cross-company leadership and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate internal and external teams to secure permits, interconnections, and approvals.
• Maintain and monitor project schedule and budget; devise recovery plans as needed.
• Establish a center of excellence with metrics and best practices for future projects.
• Drive process improvements and develop or update tools and policies.
• Develop due diligence logs and maintain site development repositories.
• Collaborate with legal, EHSS, and design teams to ensure compliance and technical rigor.
• Create proformas for financing and investment decisions.
