Job description

NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. (NANO) is an advanced nuclear technology company developing next-generation microreactor systems that will help transform the future of clean, reliable, and resilient energy. Through the development of its KRONOS MMR™ Energy System, LOKI MMR™ Energy System, and ZEUS™ Solid Core Battery Reactor—advanced high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) technologies designed for applications including data centers, industrial operations, remote communities, and critical infrastructure—the company is advancing innovative nuclear solutions for a rapidly evolving energy landscape. NANO Nuclear has also submitted a Construction Permit Application (CPA) to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to support the planned deployment of the KRONOS MMR at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), representing a significant milestone toward the commercialization of advanced nuclear technology.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to build and lead our FP&A function as the Company enters its next stage of growth. This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on finance professional to take end-to-end ownership of establishing the Company’s FP&A capabilities from the ground up. The Director of FP&A will be responsible for developing the forecasting processes, financial models, reporting frameworks and analytical tools that support financial planning and decision-making across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical FP&A and financial modeling capabilities with an entrepreneurial, hands-on mindset. This individual should be equally comfortable building detailed forecasts and financial models directly, partnering with leaders across the Company’s business units and subsidiaries to develop financial assumptions, and translating those analyses into clear insights for senior management.

Responsibilities
  • Build the Company's FP&A function from the ground up, establishing the processes, models, reporting frameworks and financial planning infrastructure required to support a growing and increasingly complex organization.
  • Own the Company's annual budgeting, periodic forecasting and long-range planning processes, including the development and maintenance of detailed financial models.
  • Develop detailed forecasts across the organization, including headcount and compensation, research and development programs, licensing and regulatory activities, project development, corporate expenses, capital expenditures and other strategic investments.
  • Partner directly with leaders across the Company's business units, subsidiaries and functional areas to understand operating plans and spending requirements, develop and challenge financial assumptions, and incorporate those inputs into the Company's consolidated financial forecast.
  • Design and build scalable processes for consolidating actual results, budgets and forecasts across multiple business units, subsidiaries and financial systems, initially leveraging standardized Excel-based templates and processes where appropriate.
  • Partner closely with Accounting and finance teams across the organization to establish consistent financial data, account mappings, reporting structures and processes that support consolidated forecasting, analysis and management reporting.
  • As the Company advances toward commercialization, develop and maintain business-unit and revenue models incorporating key commercial, operational and project-level assumptions.
  • Establish regular budget-to-actual and forecast-to-actual reporting, analyze key variances and identify trends, risks and opportunities for senior management.
  • Develop financial KPIs, dashboards and management reporting that provide clear visibility into Company performance, spending, liquidity and progress against financial and operational objectives.
  • Conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis to evaluate alternative operating plans, investment decisions, development timelines and other strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or a related discipline.
  • 8–12 years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, strategic finance or related financial roles, with meaningful experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial modeling.
  • FP&A experience within the energy, power, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing or other capital-intensive industries is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience taking significant ownership within an FP&A function, ideally including experience building, improving or scaling financial planning processes, models and reporting capabilities.
  • Strong hands-on financial modeling skills and advanced proficiency in Excel, with the ability and willingness to personally build detailed forecasts, models and analytical tools rather than solely overseeing their development.
  • Experience owning or playing a significant role in annual budgeting, periodic forecasting and long-range planning.
  • Experience developing consolidated forecasts and management reporting across multiple business units, legal entities and/or financial systems, including the ability to standardize and integrate financial data from disparate sources.
  • Strong understanding of the three financial statements and the relationship between operating assumptions, cash flows and financial performance.
What We Offer
  • A collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation and technical excellence.
  • Opportunities for mentorship, professional growth, and technical leadership.
  • The opportunity to contribute to a cleaner, more reliable energy future.
  • Competitive medical, dental, vision and life insurance with generous company contributions.
  • Company 401(k) plan with 5% match.
  • Unlimited PTO policy with company holidays and paid parental leave.
