Job summary

Oliver James Associates Ltd. is seeking a Director of FP&A to lead consolidations, planning, and executive reporting for a leading P&C insurer. This high-visibility role partners with senior finance leadership and drives insights that influence strategic decisions.

You will modernize FP&A through process improvement, automation, data analytics, and AI solutions, translating complex results into clear narratives for senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of FP&A, financial reporting, financial analysis, or insurance analytics.
  • Advanced Excel; Power Query and/or Power BI preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle, SAP, Hyperion/FCCS or similar platforms.
  • Big 4/public accounting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial results across multiple business units, including actual vs. budget, forecast, prior-period, and key-driver variance analysis.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes, including the implementation and enhancement of Oracle-based planning tools.
  • Develop and enhance financial datasets, reports, and dashboards using advanced Excel, Power Query, and Power BI.
  • Work with large, structured financial datasets while maintaining strong data integrity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Prepare polished, executive-level PowerPoint presentations and financial reporting packages.
  • Translate complex financial results into concise narratives and actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve FP&A processes and automate recurring reporting and analysis.
  • Evaluate and implement practical applications of automation, data analytics, and AI to improve efficiency and decision support.
  • Partner closely with Accounting, FP&A, Systems, and business stakeholders on reporting, planning, and financial analysis.
  • Support senior leadership with ad hoc analysis, special projects, and strategic initiatives.

Director, FP&A - Consolidations
About the Role

Our client is a leading P&C insurance organization seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Director of FP&A to support financial planning, analysis, consolidations, and executive-level reporting.

This is a high-visibility role partnering closely with senior finance leadership and serving as a key contributor to financial planning, business performance analysis, and executive decision-making. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical finance skills with the ability to translate complex financial results into clear, actionable insights.

The role will also play an important part in modernizing the FP&A function through process improvement, automation, data analytics, and emerging AI solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze financial results across multiple business units, including actual vs. budget, forecast, prior-period, and key-driver variance analysis.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes, including the implementation and enhancement of Oracle-based planning tools.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong understanding of P&C insurance accounting and financial metrics, including loss ratio, expense ratio, DAC, combined ratio, and reinsurance.
  • 5+ years of experience in FP&A, financial reporting, financial analysis, or insurance analytics.
  • Experience within a public company or similarly complex corporate environment preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with Power Query and/or Power BI strongly preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise financial systems such as Oracle, SAP, Hyperion/FCCS, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated success improving processes, automating workflows, and enhancing financial reporting.
  • Experience working with large datasets and data-driven reporting environments.
  • Strong executive communication and presentation skills.
  • Big 4 or public accounting experience is a plus, particularly experience with reconciliations, documentation, and financial controls.
  • Exposure to financial supplements, MD&A, executive reporting, or rating agency materials is a plus.
