Director - Food & Agri. Business Transformation
Experience Requirement:
- 15-20 years: Recent experience must be with a leading consulting firm serving the Food & Agribusiness sector. Preferred employers: Big 4 Consulting or equivalent.
- Across the overall career span, candidate must possess ~5 years of Industry domain experience in Food & Agribusiness.
The ideal candidate should have deep, demonstrable expertise across one or more Food & Agri sub-sectors — Agri Commodities, Food Ingredients, Dairy, Animal Protein, Food Wholesalers & Retailers, and Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) — combined with a proven track record of client-facing consulting engagements and direct accountability for revenue generation, business development, and P&L-linked KPIs. This is a senior-level, high-visibility role suited for someone who can lead engagements independently, shape client relationships at the executive level, and contribute meaningfully to the practice's growth agenda.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Engagement Leadership
- Serve as the primary client-facing lead on complex, multi-workstream consulting engagements
- Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with C-suite and senior client stakeholders
- Own engagement delivery — scope, timelines, quality, and outcomes — end to end
Business Development & Revenue Generation
- Drive new business origination, proposal development, and deal closure
- Own or contribute significantly to revenue targets / sales quotas as a core performance KPI
- Identify and convert account growth and cross-sell/up-sell opportunities within existing clients
- Support pricing strategy, commercial structuring, and contract negotiations
Strategic Advisory & Execution
- Translate complex business problems into structured, actionable recommendations for clients across the Food & Agri value chain
- Apply deep sub-sector expertise — spanning Agri Commodities, Food Ingredients, Dairy, Animal Protein, Food Wholesalers & Retailers, and CPG — to advise clients on strategy, operations, M&A, and transformation
- Advise on sector-specific themes such as supply chain and traceability, commodity price volatility and hedging strategy, farm-to-fork value chain optimization, food safety and regulatory compliance, sustainability/ESG, and go-to-market strategy for branded and private-label products
- Leverage prior industry (non-consulting) experience to bring practical, implementation-ready perspectives that pure consulting backgrounds often lack
- Lead and mentor junior consultants and project teams
- Contribute to practice-building initiatives: methodologies, IP development, thought leadership, and recruiting
- Collaborate cross-functionally with partners/directors on account strategy and firm-wide initiatives
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of total professional experience, with a demonstrated mix of:
- Time in industry/operating roles within Food & Agri (e.g., a corporate, operator, trading house, or processor across Agri Commodities, Food Ingredients, Dairy, Animal Protein, Food Wholesalers & Retailers, or CPG), and
- Time at a premier/top-tier consulting firm and advising clients in the sector
- Proven client-facing consulting experience, with direct ownership of client relationships
- Strong track record of leading complex, ambiguous engagements from scoping through delivery
- Excellent executive presence; ability to influence and advise senior client stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA or relevant advanced degree strongly preferred
- Willingness to travel as required by client engagements
Preferred to have:
- Experience across multiple Food & Agri sub-sectors, providing a holistic, cross-value-chain perspective
- Existing network of client relationships/contacts within Food & Agri that can support business development
- Experience managing P&L or practice-level financial targets
- Prior experience building or scaling a Food & Agri (or broader industrials/consumer) consulting practice or service line
- Familiarity with commodity trading/risk management, food safety regulatory frameworks (e.g., FSMA, USDA, FDA), or sustainability/ESG reporting standards relevant to the sector
