Job summary

American Rivers in the Northwest region seeks a Director, Floodplain Restoration to lead the IFM program and policy development across Washington and Oregon. You will guide communities on flood resilience, navigate complex funding, and foster cross-agency collaboration to improve governance and program impact.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in environmental studies, biology, ecology, geology, hydrology or political science with several years of relevant work.
  • Experience in policy advocacy, conservation, floodplain management, water resource management or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to build coalitions and communicate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience fundraising and managing project budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level leadership for Integrated Flood Management (IFM) program and policy development across WA and OR.
  • Advise communities on flood resilience planning and navigate funding landscapes.
  • Collaborate with NW River Restoration Director, NW Regional Director and National Director of Floodplain Restoration.
  • Represent American Rivers at conferences and events regionally and nationally.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to document lessons learned and disseminate best practices.
