Description


Trident Seafoods is the largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company in North America. Trident is a privately held, 100 percent USA-owned company with primary seafood processing operations and fleet support in twelve Alaska communities. Trident's global operations produce finished wild Alaska seafood products in 6 countries and its sales teams serve customers in over 50 countries. Trident employs approximately 9,000 people worldwide each year and partners with over 5,400 independent fishermen and crewmembers. Species harvested and processed by Trident include virtually every commercial species of salmon, whitefish, and crab harvested in the North Pacific and Alaska. The global supply chain also includes cultured and wild species from a network of trusted sources worldwide.

Summary:This position will be responsible for overseeing the sourcing as need identifies, covering all species, both for domestic and international business. This role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and analyzing market trends to ensure the best possible value to meet the company's needs. This individual will report to the Director of Global Species and work in collaboration with Corporate FSQA, Global Sales Leadership, Global Species Management, External Manufacturing, and Global S&OP teams.

Essential functions:

  • Works with S&OP, Global Species, and Category Managers to identify and analyze demands and gaps in inventory that would signal purchase need
  • Reviews Fish Procurement requests, confirms alignment on purchases with Global Sales Leadership and executes purchases within cost guidelines approved by finance and executive leadership
  • Collaborates with Corporate FSQA and Global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to validate and maintain an approved list of suppliers who meet and comply with all requirements of Trident FSQA and CSR Guidelines and the Trident Code of Conduct
  • Owns the new supplier qualification process and item set up process in SAP
  • Creates contract and purchase order documentation and issues them as appropriate to suppliers
  • Negotiates contracts, works to improve prices and terms of business with suppliers, and reviews opportunities to make business savings
  • Assesses and evaluates suppliers and undertakes performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
  • Builds, maintains, and manages supplier relationships and ensures consistent communications. Works with suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, or invoice issues. Applies critical thinking to resolve issues specific to international trade situations when applicable
  • Works collaboratively and engages with stakeholders such as Category Managers, Sales, Finance, S&OP, CSR, Global Species, and FSQA regarding new projects, supplies, and initiatives and advises of impact of change on purchasing and production activities
  • Initiates and schedules quarterly purchase review process with Global Sales Leadership

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manages new vendor qualification process and SAP setup for fish procurement, including supplier compliance with our regulatory and internal requirements (Supplier Qualification Program)
  • Support FSQA and CSR leadership teams during supplier qualification program assessments
  • Key point of contact for A/P to resolve issues involving Vendors or Vendor Payments
  • Required travel to supplier locations on an annual or bi-annual basis to conduct in person negotiations and plant evaluation. Keeping a working knowledge of CSR / FSQA requirements to evaluate plants when on-site inspection and plant visits are needed

This is a an exempt position with an annualized salaryrange of $175,000 to $225,000.

Experience / Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and 10 years of procurement experience in a fisheries related environment. 5 years of experience leading a team.

Qualifications:

  • Highly skilled at building and maintaining effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers
  • Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Proactive and forward thinking while always aware of new opportunities
  • Sales and/ or purchase experience in the seafood industry along with knowledge of global seafood and industry information is required, with expertise in Alaska fisheries and harvests strongly desired
  • Customer orientation mindset and focus
  • High level of financial acumen
  • Experience in supply chain and logistics
  • Familiar with inventory control management and reporting
  • Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to speak foreign language(s) a plus

Work Environment

This is an on-site position based at the Trident Support Center office in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood, with the option to work remotely on Fridays.

In-office time takes place in a typical office environment: temperature controlled with adequate lighting and moderate noise. While remote, employees must provide appropriate home office space.

Physical/Mental demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time at a desk. Frequently required to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee will occasionally stand, walk, and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision for frequent use of a computer.
