Director of Online Program Financial Aid
Location: Remote
Direct Reports: Financial Aid Advisors and Support Staff for Online Programs
Position Summary:
The Director of Online Program Financial Aid oversees financial aid services for graduate and professional students enrolled in online programs. This role is responsible for managing the awarding, packaging, and compliance of financial aid specifically tailored to the online student population. The Director ensures that online students receive efficient, accurate service and works closely with online program staff to support student recruitment, retention, and success.
Key Responsibilities:
• Online Student Financial Aid Management:
Oversee financial aid operations for online programs, including application processing, need analysis, and award disbursement. Ensure that all aid processes meet the needs of online learners, with timely support and accurate information.
• Compliance and Best Practices for Online Programs:
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and institutional regulations related to online financial aid. Develop and implement best practices specific to online student support and award management.
• Collaboration with Online Program Staff:
Work closely with the online program administration to coordinate financial aid support, aligning processes with enrollment and retention goals. Act as a financial aid resource for online program staff, providing training and guidance on financial aid matters.
• Scholarship and Funding Allocation:
Manage scholarships, grants, and institutional funds for online students, ensuring proper allocation and compliance with funding requirements. Partner with Advancement on donor-funded scholarships for online students, ensuring accurate award management.
• Team Leadership and Support:
Supervise financial aid advisors and support staff who work directly with online students. Provide training, mentorship, and ongoing support to ensure high-quality service and compliance.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education, Business, or a related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in financial aid, preferably with a focus on online or distance education. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of financial aid regulations and best practices for online student populations.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Skills and Certifications:
• NASFAA Professional Credentials in Administrative Capability, Need Analysis, Customer Service, Direct Loans, and Packaging & Notification of Awards are preferred. Other credentials are strongly encouraged.
• Experience with online financial aid management systems is an asset.
