Job Description
The Director, Facilities Construction & Scenic is a hands-on leadership role overseeing daily operations, execution strategies, and team performance for internal construction projects, scenic builds, and show quality sustainment at the theme park. The role interfaces with leaders from Operations, Entertainment, Food, Retail, Facilities Maintenance & Utilities, CityWalk/Hilltop Operations, and NBCU Studio Facilities/Operations, sharing responsibility for park show quality alongside Universal Creative.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead the daily operations of the Facilities Construction & Scenic teams, including carpentry, mill work, electrical, paint, composites, signage/graphics, and horticulture, focusing on projects and show quality sustainment.
  2. Manage teams responsible for small in-house construction projects within the park and seasonal event scenic builds.
  3. Implement strategies for temporary and permanent builds, pursuing new technologies to enhance show quality and reduce maintenance.
  4. Respond promptly to high-priority issues, communicate effectively with clients, and improve processes as needed.
  5. Lead long-range planning for large show quality sustainment projects.
  6. Partner with Universal Creative to maintain show quality standards for static facilities and atmosphere.
  7. Collaborate with Entertainment on seasonal event builds.
  8. Partner with Facilities Maintenance & Utilities to optimize trade utilization for maintenance and projects.
  9. Ensure team training, safety compliance, and professional growth, fostering a supportive environment.
  10. Work with Environmental Health & Safety to ensure safety and compliance.
  11. Build strong relationships with Technical Services leadership to drive initiatives and culture.
  12. Manage client and leadership expectations, demonstrating flexibility and empathy.
  13. Engage with senior leaders on operational impacts and strategic initiatives.
  14. Provide on-call coverage for weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  15. Maintain readiness for emergencies, with occasional nights and weekends onsite.

This position offers company-sponsored benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and other perks. The hourly range is $140,000 - $180,000.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years in related fields (construction, scenic fabrication, etc.).
  • 7+ years of management experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; willingness to learn new software.
  • Ability to analyze data and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including weekends and holidays.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s Degree in a technical discipline.
  • Hands-on technical/trade experience.
  • Experience leading union and non-union teams.
  • Operational experience in theme parks or hospitality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and be proactive.
