Job summary

Amgen seeks a Director of External Research & Development - Technology Innovation Business Development to lead AI-enabled technology partnerships across biotech and tech ecosystems. You will shape strategy, evaluate opportunities, and drive complex transactions with senior leadership.

Based in South San Francisco or Thousand Oaks, you will partner with cross-functional teams, mentor staff, and influence external alliances to accelerate research and medical breakthroughs.

Qualifications

• Doctorate degree in a scientific field with biotech/HealthTech/biopharmaceutical business development experience.
• Master's degree in a scientific field with 7+ years BD experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field with 9+ years BD experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and advance external AI, digital, and technology innovation opportunities aligned with Amgen's R&D and enterprise strategy.
• Monitor trends to uncover high-value partnership opportunities.
• Lead cross-functional diligence teams to evaluate scientific merit and business value.
• Translate insights into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
• Lead business development transactions including collaborations, licensing, and partnerships.
