Qualifications

Job description

The Director of Enterprise Infrastructure Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for core technology infrastructure, including data center services, cloud platforms, servers, storage, virtualization, backup and recovery, identity services, Microsoft 365, DNS, application load balancing, and enterprise monitoring.

This role ensures infrastructure services are secure, reliable, scalable, cost-effective, well-documented, and aligned with institutional priorities. The Director leads technical staff and partners with IT leadership, cybersecurity, applications, networking, service management, Legal, vendors, and campus units to support continuity, compliance, digital transformation, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Infrastructure Planning

  • Develop infrastructure strategy, standards, roadmaps, lifecycle plans, and investment recommendations aligned with institutional goals
  • Evaluate technology needs and risks, promote modernization, and ensure infrastructure services remain secure, resilient, scalable, and cost-effective
  • Partner with IT leadership to prioritize work, support digital transformation, and advance a proactive, service-oriented infrastructure culture

Operational Oversight of Core Infrastructure Services

  • Oversee daily operations for server administration, virtualization, storage, DNS, application load balancing, and related infrastructure services
  • Ensure systems are maintained, monitored, patched, documented, and supported according to standards
  • Lead operational follow-up for infrastructure incidents, service disruptions, escalations, and root cause analysis

Identity, Microsoft 365, and Enterprise Platform Administration

  • Oversee Active Directory, Azure Entra Connect, Microsoft 365 tenant administration, and internal MTA/sendmail services
  • Ensure appropriate access controls, administrative procedures, documentation, and operational controls are in place.
  • Partner with cybersecurity and service owners to maintain secure, reliable identity and collaboration platforms.

Backup, Recovery, Monitoring, and Business Continuity

  • Oversee backup, recovery, snapshot, and restoration processes using Commvault, SAN, and VMware capabilities
  • Maintain monitoring, alerting, escalation, and response practices for servers, services and applications.
  • Support disaster recovery, business continuity, incident response, and recovery testing activities.

Compliance, Legal Support, Risk Management, and Security Partnership

  • Coordinate litigation holds, e-discovery requests, audit support, and compliance documentation in partnership with Legal and cybersecurity. Support vulnerability management, patching, access controls, logging, monitoring, and remediation activities
  • Identify, communicate, prioritize, and reduce infrastructure risks

Team Leadership, Staff Development, and Resource Management

  • Supervise, coach, and develop infrastructure staff; set priorities, goals, expectations, and accountability measures.
  • Manage workload, staffing needs, resource allocation, cross-training, knowledge sharing, and succession planning.
  • Foster collaboration, transparency, service excellence, and continuous

Vendor, Project, and Service Management Collaboration

  • Manage vendor relationships, licensing, contracts, support, and service delivery for infrastructure platforms.
  • Collaborate on infrastructure projects, upgrades, migrations, implementations, and modernization efforts.
  • Partner with service management on incident, change, problem, knowledge, asset, configuration, and service catalog practices
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, management information systems, engineering, business, or a related field and ten (10) years of appropriate experience or equivalent education, training, and experience.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in information technology, business administration, higher education administration, leadership, or related field and twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Experience in higher education, public sector, or similarly complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience with VMware, Windows Server, Linux, SAN/NAS, AWS, Wasabi Cloud, Infoblox, Commvault, Zabbix, Active Directory, Azure Entra Connect, and Microsoft 365.
  • Experience with legal, compliance, audit, litigation hold, e-discovery, ITIL, project management, security, Microsoft, VMware, AWS, or related certifications.
