Build the Foundation for Trusted Enterprise Data

Delta Dental of Virginia is seeking a strategic and collaborative leader to establish and mature our enterprise data governance capabilities. As Director, Enterprise Data Steward, you will help shape how data is defined, managed, trusted, and used across the organization, enabling better decision-making, stronger analytics, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

This is a unique opportunity to build enterprise-wide data stewardship practices that support business growth, advanced analytics, reporting, and AI initiatives. You'll partner with executive leaders, business stakeholders, technology teams, and analytics professionals to create a culture of accountability and confidence in enterprise data.

As the organization's enterprise leader for data governance and stewardship, you will:

  • Develop and lead the enterprise data governance strategy, framework, and operating model.
  • Establish data ownership, stewardship practices, standards, and accountability across key business domains.
  • Partner with business and technology leaders to ensure data is accurate, accessible, secure, and aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Lead and facilitate a cross‑functional Data Council to drive alignment, resolve data challenges, and support enterprise decision-making.
  • Champion data quality, business definitions, metadata management, and trusted reporting standards.
  • Promote data literacy and adoption of governed data assets throughout the organization.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual reporting, and improve business outcomes through effective use of data.
What We’re Looking For: Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience leading enterprise data strategy, data governance, analytics, data management, or large‑scale business transformation initiatives.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience working across matrixed organizations and influencing stakeholders at multiple levels. Healthcare, insurance, or other highly regulated industries preferred.
  • Demonstrated success establishing, leading, or maturing enterprise data governance programs.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data management concepts, reporting environments, analytics platforms, and data governance best practices.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change and build alignment without direct authority.
  • Ability to serve as a strategic translator between business and technology, converting complex data and technical concepts into actionable business insights while translating business objectives into clear technology and execution strategies.
