Coates Group in Chicago seeks a Director of Engineering to lead high-performing squads and deliver reliable software for global brands. You will shape engineering standards, remove blockers, and mentor engineers while partnering with Product, Delivery and QA to drive business outcomes.

You will own platform health, deployment pipelines, and scalability, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration across onshore and offshore teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years in engineering leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Experience delivering enterprise-scale platforms in client environments.

Responsibilities

• Engineering Enablement: ensure squads have capability and remove blockers.
• Engineering Leadership & Capability: act as chapter-style leader for engineers and leads.
• Technical Leadership, Debt & Design Quality: manage debt and ensure sound design.
• Quality in Delivery: embed quality-by-design with CI/CD and QA collaboration.
• Platform Health & Operability: own the system reliability across prod and pre-prod.
• People & Partner Leadership: lead permanent and partner engineers, including offshore.
• Delivery Flow & Dependencies: enable autonomous squads and improve delivery flow.
