Job description

Director, Engineering - Clinical Products

Heartflow is a medical technology company advancing the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, the #1 cause of death worldwide, using cutting-edge technology. The flagship product—an AI-driven, non-invasive cardiac test supported by the ACC/AHA Chest Pain Guidelines called the Heartflow FFR CT Analysis—provides a color-coded, 3D model of a patient’s coronary arteries indicating the impact blockages have on blood flow to the heart. Heartflow is the first AI-driven non-invasive integrated heart care solution across the CCTA pathway that helps clinicians identify stenoses in the coronary arteries (RoadMapAnalysis), assess coronary blood flow (FFR CT Analysis), and characterize and quantify coronary atherosclerosis (Plaque Analysis). Our pipeline of products is growing and so is our team; join us in helping to revolutionize precision heartcare.

Heartflow is a VC-backed company that has received international recognition for exceptional strides in healthcare innovation, is supported by medical societies around the world, cleared for use in the US, UK, Europe, Japan and Canada, and has been used for more than 400,000 patients worldwide.

The Director, Engineering - Clinical Products will lead the engineering teams building sophisticated cloud applications supporting HeartFlow FFRct, Roadmap, Plaque, and other new products. These tools empower clinicians with advanced insights, data, and visualizations derived from CCTA images through intuitive and interactive user experiences.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in building and scaling engineering organizations, driving team planning and delivery, and ensuring the technical and operational excellence required in a regulated healthcare environment.

You will work alongside passionate software engineers, UI/UX designers, product managers and research scientists to deliver future generations of Heartflow’s AI-based products. As both a technical and people leader, you will play a critical role in scaling our organization and advancing our technology.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow multiple engineering teams through engineering managers, setting clear goals and ensuring alignment to strategic objectives.
  • Drive successful quarterly and long-range planning efforts, balancing innovation with execution, and ensuring engineering teams consistently meet delivery commitments.
  • Ensure engineering teams are executing with high quality, predictable velocity, and attention to operational reliability.
  • Hire, develop, and retain strong engineering and management talent; build an inclusive, high-performance team culture.
  • Manage and grow an organization of engineering teams that span algorithm development, visualizations, results and report generation.
  • Mentor and guide engineering managers in their career development and technical growth.
  • Provide technical leadership across medical device software, including visualization, UI architecture, cloud services, algorithm development and integration.
  • Collaborate with product, clinical, design, and research teams to build seamless and effective user experiences that translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Partner with other engineering leaders to evolve our system architecture and ensure cross-team alignment and technical coherence.
  • Contribute hands-on to design when appropriate, especially in areas of high impact such as architecture, rendering pipelines, or clinical data visualization.

Skills Needed:

  • Proven experience managing managers and leading multiple engineering teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Track record of successful planning, consistent execution, and on-time delivery of complex software projects.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with an ability to align engineering outcomes to business priorities.
  • Experience in turning complex data and algorithms into intuitive, interactive visual experiences.
  • Strong background in UI/UX-driven development, data visualization, or real-time rendering.
  • Practical experience of turning research-developed algorithms into production-grade software
  • Solid understanding of MLOps, cloud-native development, and scalable architectures.
  • Deep knowledge of software development best practices: testing, CI/CD, DevOps, agile methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with medical applications or other regulated industries. Direct experience with Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) is highly desired.
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructures (Amazon Web Services or equivalent).
  • Nice-to-have: experience with medical imaging or 3D visualization.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience in a software company.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining commercial software products that combine ML models with engaging user interfaces.
  • 5+ years in engineering leadership, with at least 3 years managing engineering managers and growing multi-team organizations.

Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
