The Engineering Director leads manufacturing engineering/technical services, process maintenance, and facilities engineering to deliver safe, reliable, efficient, and high-quality operations across machining, heat treat, assembly, and supporting infrastructure. The role develops technical teams and drives continuous improvement through lean methods, operational excellence, equipment reliability, and data-driven problem solving to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and asset performance.

The position also owns capital deployment, new process introduction, process maintenance strategy, and facilities engineering priorities, including planning, justification, installation, sustainment, and launch of manufacturing technologies, equipment, utilities, and facility systems. Working cross-functionally, the Engineering Director sets manufacturing and infrastructure standards, builds technical capability, improves equipment availability and facility readiness, and advances productivity, capacity, reliability, and long-term competitiveness.

  • Managing the engineering staff and activities with an emphasis on organizational goals achievement, professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Monitoring and continuously improving product and process performance, quality and cost-effectiveness for all engineering activities and deliverables.
  • Providing leadership to create and maintain processes used to design, develop and manufacture components, systems, products, services, and technologies.
  • Managing engineering product and manufacturing process or quality issues, from concept through end of life-cycle.

Degree required, Engineering degree preferred

Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Expert knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Expert knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Technical Excellence: Expert knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

Communicating for Impact: Extensive knowledge of the concepts, tools and techniques for effective listening and communicating; ability to apply these theories to receive, transmit and accurately interpret information and ideas to influence others in various situations.

Customer/Market Focus: Extensive understanding of the importance of remaining aware of shifting market priorities and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a manner that consistently adds value.

Managing People: Extensive knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.

Collaborating Globally: Expert knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results.

Influencing Through Expertise: Expert knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.

Summary Pay Range

$189,080.00 - $283,630.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
